 Dear Birthparent,

How We Met We met several years ago after Paul moved home from South Carolina, although neither one can exactly pinpoint the exact moment. After a couple years of just seeing each other around town, we got the chance to "re-meet" at a friend's wedding in 2008. Several of our friends insisted to both of us that we should go out on a date. After going out on several dates, Laura freaked out and broke things off with Paul. After several months, Laura started wondering if she had given up too quickly. We started having weekly lunch dates - just as friends! After a few months of this, Laura knew that she HAD given up too quickly and started to really enjoy Paul's company. She started dropping hints and trying to flirt with Paul a bit more, but he just was not having it. Finally, Laura knew that she had to say something or else he wouldn't ask her out again! Finally one day at lunch, Laura sat nervously across a pot of chai tea and said, "I think if you wanted to ask me out again, that would be okay." And even though Paul gave her a hard time, he still called the next day for a date, - we've been together ever since! | Our Engagement Paul proposed to Laura while we were on vacation with Paul's family in Costa Rica. Laura thought that it just might happen while we were away, but was surprised when Paul proposed the first night we were there. Paul had hoped to propose on the beach at sunset, but a delayed flight changed his plan. Instead, he proposed next to the pool right before dinner, and it was perfect. The best part was that we were able to spend the whole week together and dream about our future together. It was the first time we could dream together about what our future family might look like. We were engaged for 5 months. | We got engaged in Costa Rica!

Paul attended the University of South Carolina. This was Laura's first game. | At a U2 concert. | One of our favorite dates ever - hiking & a mountain top picnic!

We got married on May 29, 2010. We chose to get married on Memorial Day weekend so that we could always have a 3-day weekend on our anniversary. Paul's twin brother, Carter, was his best man. Laura's best friend, Amanda, was her maid of honor. We were so excited to have our families and friends all gathered together in one place on one day. Our family and friends are so important to us. Having everyone we loved there to support us was the best wedding gift. | Our Marriage

We have a very laid-back relationship. We were friends before we started dating, which has helped us tremendously in our marriage. We love spending time together just hanging out - cooking dinner, being with friends, playing with our dog, Mallie, in the backyard, or watching a movie. We both really enjoy doing things for each other - we try to outdo each other for birthdays and Christmas. We spend a lot of time laughing - especially at ourselves! We have a lot of inside jokes and have been playing a constant game of thumb wrestling for almost 3 years! Paul takes pride in providing for our family by working hard at the property management company that he just took over from his dad. He is a great boss at the office, and does an amazing job at balancing work and home-life. His family is his first priority next to his love for Jesus. Laura takes pride in taking care of our home, being able to help babysit our niece and our friends' children, and volunteering with college students. She is excited to be a stay at home mom. We are beyond excited to start our family. We want to have 3 or 4 children. We have dreams of spending Saturdays going to soccer games and helping our kids with science projects. We enjoy imagining all of the places that we want our children to see and the things we want them to experience. We believe that part of the reason God put us together is because of our love for children and family.

Laura's Family I grew up in a really small town with two sisters, my mom, and my dad. We also always had a dog or two. Growing as up a middle child, I always wanted to be a peace keeper, and I still do to this day! As a kid, we always had a very close relationship with my grandparents - this is something that meant a lot to me, and something I want for my kids. My sisters and I are close even though we live several hours away. Allison, my older sister, teaches nursing in North Carolina near the beach. My younger sister, Mary Beth, just graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in interior design. They are both kind and creative and hilarious. Mary Beth's boyfriend, Peter, (in the picture on the bottom left) is also an important part of our family. He served for four years in the Marines and went to Iraq twice. He was adopted as a child and can be a great resource for our adopted son or daughter. My mom is the most giving and loving person I've ever met. She is a middle school librarian. She knows how to make people feel at home and has a great sense of humor. My dad is hardworking, kind, and supportive. He is a law enforcement officer. My parents were divorced after I graduated from college. We live about 3 hours away from my mom and 4 hours away from my dad, but we try to see each other as often as we can. We take a yearly vacation with my mom - this year we went to the Harry Potter theme park. The child that Paul and I adopt will be the first grandchild in my family. My mom, dad, and sisters are so excited! My sisters have been planning a nursery for a while now. They can't wait to meet our first son or daughter. | Laura as a kiddo. | Peter, Mary, Mom, Allison, Laura & Paul.
