FC: Our Adoption Profile Pages

We're the Happe family. | It sounds cliché, but it’s really our name – and it happens to be true, as well. We are a happy, loving, fun family living on a lake in Chisago County, about 40 miles northeast of the Twin Cities, and love it here. We live on a dead end road with great neighbors who have horses and chickens right across the street, as well as bald eagles, wild turkeys, deer, and the occasional fox nearby. On our street, there are seasonal cabins amongst the year-round residences and lots of neighbors hosting family reunions, holiday get-togethers, and weekend visitors. We love to entertain and have friends and family come to enjoy our lake with us. Jon moved here in 2000 after living in Blaine for many years. He found this house after hearing from a friend that it might come on the market soon. He came to check it out, smelled the clean air, and knew at once he found his new home. Andrea moved here when they married and immediately loved the attitude of "living on vacation" of this area. Paul was born in November 2006 and has already spent countless hours sorting and throwing rocks into the lake to find which size makes what sound when it splashes in the water. We can just see him doing this with a younger brother or sister. | JONATHAN (Jon): Great dad. Teaches Paul science and math at every opportunity. Software Engineer. Encyclopedic knowledge of music and a collection to match. Loves following sports, pinball, fishing, reading, and new technology. ANDREA: Fun mom. Seeks events for the family to attend. Tries to make Paul belly laugh at least once every day. Medical transcriptionist working from home. Cherishes being a stay-at-home mom. Loves sailing, reading, movies, baking, The Beatles, and writing. PAUL: Happy son. Delights in showing off his brand-new reading skills. Loves trains, cars, planes, books, and kid computer games.

I | Jon and Andrea met in December of 2002. After a year and a half of dating, we married in June of 2004 in Las Vegas. Jon's family (below, left) lives in Minnesota and we see them for birthdays and holidays and lots of entertaining on our lake. Andrea's family (below, right) mostly moved to Idaho to raise their families. Even her parents moved from Minnesota and retired there, leaving just her and her brother John and his family in their home state. We see the whole group on special occasions, road trips, and our new tradition of a yearly trek for the Mother's Day family reunion. | Our Family is a circle of strength and love

In this house love grows | One afternoon, Paul grabbed a book from his bookshelf, hopped up on his bed, and said, “Mom, when I get a baby (brother or sister), I’m going to read 'em this book.” “Why that book?”, I said. “I think they will like it and it will make 'em happy.” You’ll be a great big brother, I thought. When we couldn't have another biological child, it made us think about how families come together all sorts of ways. We know it's not blood that brings a family together; it's love. That's when we chose adoption. We are excited to have another child and eager to share our home and history with another member of our immediate family. | Moose and Yeyo (Yellow Cat) are both the same age as Paul, 4 1/2, and are best friends. | Mousie is 16 years old and still likes to play outside | Jon and Paul go fishing as often as possible. They rarely catch anything but always have a good time. | During the winter lake celebration, we watched these balloons glide right past our living room windows. | Jon is great at teaching science like this. Paul wanted to see how the ice melted when spring comes, so they went and looked!

Andrea now owns the sailboat her father built over 40 years ago. Teaching the love of sailing is another passion of ours. | We daydream far into the future of our children reminiscing about road trips, amusement park rides, and jokes about us parents with the one person who will have shared it all: a sibling. | When Paul hopped on his bed and wondered what it would be like to read to his younger brother or sister, it made me think of all the small events like that which have led us to this point right here, where you are reading this introduction of us. All those little moments like that have guided us to take the next step where we now are on this journey of adoption. How does it happen that both we as a family and you as our reader have taken two independent series of small steps where now our lives may intersect in such a big and significant way? The answer probably lies somewhere around the idea the Universe has guided us to this point for a reason known only to our futures. We honor you and your story as it relates to the reason you are looking through this book, where your story may entwine with our desire to complete our family. We are home study approved and can be reached at thehappes@gmail.com. You have our sincere best wishes on your journey.
