FC: The French Revolution By: Kailee Love
One of the main reasons for the French Revolution was from unfair taxes. Two other reasons were because the area divided into three estates, and France set of troops and supplies to aid the American revolutionaries. The three estates were- 1st. estate: clergy (church officials) that weren't taxed, 2nd. estate: Nobility and also wasn't taxed, and also the 3rd estate: Commoners also called Bourgeoisie which were the one who were taxed. The French took over a lot of land but, still had many issues with there people. and how they thought the government was working. When they send supply and troops to the Americas to help out, a lot of money went with them and eventually France became broke.
1st estate- Clergy also called Church officials, about 130,000 people, own 10% of the land. 2nd estate- Nobility, about 350,000 people, owned 25 to 30% of the land. they played a big role in the French Government for there military systems. 3rd estate- The Bourgeoisie also called commoners or middle class, about 75 to 80% of the population, owned 35 to 40% of the land. | Meeting of the Estate General
Tennis Court Oath | The Tennis Court Oath is when a whole bunch of the people from the 3rd estate came in and demanded that the king agrees to give them rights. The Declaration of Rights of Men and Citizen, influenced by the American Declaration of Independence, that all citizens were to have the right to take part in laws, Freedom of Speech and the press were affirmed. (besides women)
Storming of the Bastille | On July 14, 1789 about 8 thousand men and women searching for weapons marched to the Bastille a royal armory filled with weapons and ammunition. This was also a state prison. They took down the place brick by brick, until it was fully destroyed.
Reign of Terror | Also know as The Rain of Terror Maximilien Ropespierre was a man that got sick of the king and got a group of people and got ride of issue, by killing them. He killed 40,000 people by killing them with a Guillotine. ( the picture above is above shows the guillotine in progress and what it does to the victim)
Napoleon | Coup d' tau was a new government named consulate. Napoleon was a absolute ruler, an emperor that took over many countries. He made the Napoleonic Code, is a civil code, that recognizes the principle of equality of all citizens before the law (besides women).
All of these this happened in the French Revolution. A lot of people were killed, the third estate was treated unfairly and the government became very poor.
