2: Cell History | Robert Hooke made the term "cells" because ha made a honeycomb like network of cellulae (Latin for little storage rooms) in a cork slice using his primitive compound microscope. Matthias Schleiden discovered cells are the basic building blocks of all plant matter. Also that all plant tissues arose for a single cell. Theodor Schwann studied animal cells and discovered the cell theory off of observations from these cells. Rudolf Virchow holds the belief that diseases originate in cells and not in tissues. He also discovered the idea that cells come from other cells.

9: Cell wall: Provides structure. Found in prokaryotic cells, plant cells, fungi cells. Chloroplast: Uses light energy to make carbs from CO2 and water Golgi Apparatus: A set of flatten, membrane-bound sacs that serve as the packing and distribution center of a cell. Vacuole: Stores water for the cell and also contains many substances including ions, nutrients, and waste. Mitochondrion: Creates energy Rough ER: Moves proteins and other substances through the cell. Smooth ER: Makes lipids and breaks down toxic substances. Ribosomes: Cell organelle composed of RNA and proteins: the site of protein synthesis. Nucleus: Contains DNA and helps with growth, metabolism, and reproduction. Cell Membrane: Covers the cell and protects it, also keeps everything inside.
10: Cell Membrane | The cell membrane is a partly permeable membrane that surrounds the cytoplasm of a cell. However, it is unlike the cell wall for plants because it is not as rigid. The cell membrane is a flexible lipid that has different proteins on the surface. Many of the membranes associated with proteins have hydrophilic and hydrophobic regions. Hydrophobic regions are used to help anchor the protein inside of the cell membrane.
11: Homeostasis | Homeostasis is the tendency of a system, especially the physiological system of higher animals, to maintain internal stability, owing to the coordinated response of its parts to any situation or stimulus that would tend to disturb its normal condition or function.
