1: History of My Cobra 427 SC Build The intent of my build was to recreate an American muscle car legend using original and enhanced engineered parts. The Cobra 427 is one of the most iconic cars of all time. I did not want to build a traditional kit car, this is a replica in the truest sense of the word. I managed to completely build this replica with no time constraints, and quality parts. The majority of the parts used in the build are original, enhanced, and self-engineered. The power plant chosen is an original 1965 Ford FE 427 Side Oiler, with a 4 speed Top Loader transmission. The engine and transmission were completely rebuilt and blueprinted. Historical rare Ford racing proven components were used for the engine build. The entire construction of this car (minus the paint) was completed by me. The four inch tubular chassis along with the body were built to specification from an original Cobra. The chassis and suspension components were finished in a durable Silver powder coating for years of longevity. I chose to modernize some of the components such as the braking system, with 4 piston calipers on all four wheels. Additionally, the braking system was retrofitted with the 60’s style manual brake master cylinders. This gives the ability to independently fine tune the braking system. Pin-drive wheels with knock off spinners were used to recreate the original style Halibrand appearance. These wheels were constructed from a light-weight two piece polished aluminum without the easily flammable hazards of magnesium. This gave the ability to create a wheel that was comparable in weight and strength. Additionally, front Pin drive hubs needed to be fabricated to accept the Pin drive wheels. As a result, this vehicle out performs an original Cobra, as well as other modern exotic vehicles with raw horsepower, braking and handling. The entire process took 10 years to complete. I feel the final product speaks for itself!
