1: Spanish | In the year 1540 Hernando de Soto started the journey in Florida and went into Georgia with 600 men by his side. Hernando de Soto was in search of gold. Spanish missions were mainly used to spread the word of Catholism. These missions started in 1566 in Cumberland Island, and St. Catalina. | Also in the year 1540 Francisco Coronado left from Mexico. he was in search of the Seven Golden Cities of Cibola. He rode through New Mexico, Arizona, and Texas. Fransisco and his men never really found the Seven Golden Cities. Instead they found the grand canyon but that wasn't good enough for Fransisco
2: Spanish | In 1608 Samuel de Champlain brought settlers to Montreal. Samuel de Champlain went to buy fur from the Indians. Not only did he get fur, but he also made a friendship with the Hurons(Indians). The missionaries that lived with the Indians built churches for both the Indians and themselves. Samuel de Champlain had discovered Lake Champlain while exploring the Great lakes.
3: France | In 1534 Jacques Cartier wanted to find the East Indies through North he never found what he was looking for instead he discovered the St.Lawrence River. The river ended on a hill which Jacques Cartier named Mont Real in honor of the king of France. Mont real later become what we no as Montreal.
4: In 1672 Father Marquette and Louis Joliet lived with the Huron Indians. They were in search of the river that would take them to the Pacific Ocean. They had found the Mississippi River
5: In 1519 Hernando Cortez was in search of gold. So he left Cuba in search of gold. Once he arrived at his destination he went to war with the Aztecs. Then he captured Montezuma and began to enslave the Aztecs and make them look for the gold and silver. When the riches were found they were shipped back to Spain.
6: Britain | England was the first to claim the east coast of North America and because they did he was the first one to discover the North American mainland. Also, in 1497 John and his men explored Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and gave England fishing rights
7: Henry Hudson wanted t find a water way that took him through North America. He could not find what he was looking for but he did discover the Hudson bay in 1610
