FC: The Adventures of Flat Jacob

Jacob - Thanks for letting me share in the adventures of the flat you! What a fun month! I LOVE YOU!! Love, Kimmer

One of Jaker's first adventures was a trip to the U of M track clinic with Triton athletes and coaches. He wanted to try the hurdles just like his mom!!

He Joined the Triton T | He joined the Triton Track coaching staff and helped coach athletes to school record performances!

Kimmer is a science teacher, so Jaker spent time helping her finish molecular biology lab work for her students | He used micropipettes and separated DNA with gel electrophoresis!

He helped with grading and computer work too... and insisted that Kimmer stop working sometimes to play :)

 Good Curling! | April 1-2, 2011

Jacob and Kimmer went to Two Harbors for a Bonspiel. Jacob liked learning a new sport. The rocks were really heavy (and one slid over his leg - OUCH!) but he got pretty good and pushing and riding the 45 pound rocks!!

Jaker and Kimmer spent the bonspiel weekend at John and BJ's house. They explored animal skulls and skins, and spent lots of time watching the guppies swimming in the aquarium!

John and BJ live in Finland, in Northeast Minnesota. Jaker is pointing to it on the map!

We watched birds and stacked wood for the fire. | Jaker tried on an antler too!

The snow was all gone in Rochester, but the North Shore was still a winter wonderland. And it even snowed a few more inches while we were there!!

Before leaving the North Shore, we stopped at Wolf Ridge, Kimmer's home away from home, to do some exploring. Jaker met the peregrine falcon and a stuffed wolf. Then he went rock climbing - and even belayed Kimmer as she climbed!

Then he collected some sap from a maple tree to make maple syrup. Finally, just before it was time to head back to southern Minnesota, he joined the Wolf Ridge staff!!

At the Bonspiel, Jaker met 4-day old Oliver. The real Jaker was this little when Kimmer first met him!!

On the way home, we stopped at Black Beach on Lake Superior. Superior is one of the biggest lakes in the world by surface area, and has 3 quadrillion gallons of water in it!! It was pretty windy, so Kimmer had to hold on tight so he didn't fly away!

We spent LOTS of time on the bus - from Dodge Center to Walker, MN | On the road again....

We spent the weekend at Chase on the Lake in Walker, MN for the state student council conference. | The hotel had a bowling alley, so Jaker tried out bowling, and even kept score for us!

Flat Jaker headed to Ali Al Salem Air Base in Southwest Asia to spend some time with one of Kimmer's friends that is in the Air Force! | He waited in the back of the C-130 Hercules aircraft in the cargo compartment for the army passengers to board the plane.

After helping with the pre-flight checklists and making sure the plane was ready to fly, he got strapped into the pilot's seat for the night flight in support of Operation New Dawn. | He flew from Ali Al Salem Air Base in Southwest Asia to Joint Base Balad Air Base in Iraq!!! | He flew from Ali Al Salem Air Base in Southwest Asia to Joint Air Base Balad Air Base in Iraq!!!

Jaker did a great job flying the C-130!! There were LOTS of controls that he had to learn about!

The entire flight crew was glad Flat Jaker came along for the mission!

A DAY AT THE DRAKE RELAYS!! | Saturday, April 30 we went down to Des Moines, Iowa for the Drake relays. What a GREAT day!! Jaker saw high jumpers jump 7 feet, 7 inches!! He also saw some of the fastest runners in the world compete on the blue oval. During lunch, we tried to reach the world record high jump height (8 feet, 0.5 inches) - together, we could ALMOST reach it!! WOW!!

When not on the go, Kimmer really likes relaxing in the sauna. Jaker loved it too!!

Wow! What a wonderful (and BUSY) month with Flat Jaker!! I LOVED having him with me, and I think I'm going to miss him now that he's going back to school! Time with Flat Jaker is wrapping up, but I look forward to lots of adventures with the real Jaker in the years to come! I LOVE YOU JACOB!!! Love, Kimmer
