3: Since 2003, the genocidal conflict in Darfur has devastated millions of non-combatant and killed at least 200,000 people.
4: Beginning of Sudan. Why does one group wish to obliterate another? | *Since the beginning of the civil war between the north and south of Sudan, the people were ignored or seen as troublemakers as they tried to have a voice in the politics of their nation. *Suffering from scarce resources from civil war, the non-Arab tribes and the African tribes began to engage in skirmishes controlled of prime land and water sources. The desert has been encroaching their natural resources for decades, making a bad situation worse.
6: Sudan's Military Why does one group wish to obliterate another? | The National Islamic Front regime, refused to control the violence as Arab militia raided the villages in Darfur. Those powered saw an opportunity to destroy millions of people they deemed unworthy or as nuisances.
7: Officials in Khartoum began funding the Arab militia known as Janjeweeds. There are approximately twenty thousand soldiers in the Janjeweed who rape, abduct women and children, and slaughter hundreds of thousands of Darfur's population
8: How is genocide addressed in the media? | Over the past seven years, however, the New York Times has only mentioned the words “Darfur” and “genocide” 716 times (Nexis.com). That means the genocide in Darfur received the New York Times’ attention about twice a week.
9: President Barack Obama answered questions by YouTube users. The video received the most votes from the Enough Project, an organization pushing to end genocide. He replied ,“hope is that we can broker agreements with all the parties involved to deal with what has been an enormous human tragedy in that region.”
10: I feel like United States should be more interested in Sudan because they need all the help that they can get. The Genocide needs to stop before there will be no more Sudan. | Self-Reflection
11: How can we increase our awareness of atrocities such as genocide? | *Help *Donate *Let the world know even more, spread the word.
12: What are we doing to help those who are victims of genocide? | Numbers of groups nationwide have committed to confronting the tragedy of Darfur and the travesty of the international community’s silence on the issue. Such as: *Save Darfur Coalition (www.savedarfur.org) *Students Taking Action Now: Darfur or STAND (www.standnow.org) and etc..
