FC: The Great Depression
1: One of the main causes of the economic depression was the crash of the stock market in 1929.
3: Another one of the major causes of the Great Depression was widespread bank failure. During the 1930's, over 9000 banks failed.
4: The Great Depressed lasted about 12 years. | It wasn't until after World War 2 when the US started to see actual economic growth.
6: The dust bowl, while not a cause of the great depression, ravaged the inner states.
7: Life during the Depression was hard, a lot of people were homeless.
16: Everybody was affected by the depression. Though it had a greater impact on farmers because they had little money to begin with. Over all, everybody suffered a great deal. African Americans were also hit pretty hard considering that that they were already discriminated against during this time. The percent of women in the workforce was higher than that of the men. The reason was people could higher women cheaper than men. So more women were working than men.
19: One of the forces that helped kick start the recovery was the New Deal. However it was when the US joined WWII that the economy made a major U turn and came back. The war opened up many new jobs and the US went back on track.
