1: Kate and Paul A good marriage is like a good recipe. If you start with the right ingredients it comes out perfect. You have all that you need. Mom
2: 1 pkg. devils food cake mix 1 pkg. instant chocolate pudding mix 1/2 c. margarine, softened 4 eggs 1 c. water Preheat oven 350. Combine cake mix, pudding mix, margarine, eggs and water in a large bowl. Beat at low speed until just moistened. Beat at medium speed, scrapping bowl frequently for 2 min. Do not over beat. Drop heaping teaspoons of batter 2 inches apart on greased baking sheets. Pies should be about 3 inches in diameter after baking. Bake 11 1/2 min. or until pies spring back when touched lightly. Let cool 5 min. on baking sheets. Remove to wire racks to cool completely. Filling: 3 sticks butter, softened 2 c. marshmallow fluff 1 1/2 c. powdered sugar 1 tsp. vanilla Combine butter, fluff, sugar and vanilla. Beat 2 min. at high until mixture is light and fluffy. Spread filling on flat side of half of the cookies. Top with remaining cookies to make sandwiches. Makes 24-30 pies. Time tested winner Hit with kids. | Whoopie Pies
3: Beverages | Halahan's Irish Cream 1 can Borden's Eagle sweetened condensed milk 4 eggs 1 Tbsp. Hershey syrup 1 tsp. vanilla 1 tsp. coconut extract 8 oz. VO Mix in blender for 5 minutes. Perfect for St. Patrick's Day! "Handsome Halahan's" Orange Julius Mix 3 c. orange juice 1 super heaping Tbsp. of vanilla ice cream (2 oz.) milk or cream may be substituted 1 Tbsp. vanilla 1/2 c. crushed ice 1/2 c confectioners sugar 1 egg few chunks pineapple or peaches (optional) Blend like hell. Elaine for Mark - a favorite !
4: 3/4 c. creamy peanut butter 3 Tbsp. margarine 1 1/2 c. graham cracker crumbs 1 pkg. regular vanilla pudding mix 3 c. milk 1 pkg. regular chocolate pudding mix 1 tsp. vanilla 1 4oz. Cool whip Heat 1/2 cup peanut butter and margarine until smooth. Stir in cracker crumbs. Cool. Press mixture onto bottom and up sides of 9 inch pie plate. Chill. In saucepan, combine vanilla pudding mix and 1 1/2 c. milk. Cook and stir to a full boil. Stir in remaining peanut butter. Spoon into crust. Chill. Combine chocolate pudding mix and remaining milk, cook and stir to a full boil. Stir in vanilla. Spoon over peanut butter layer. Chill. To serve spread Cool Whip over pie. Sprinkle with chopped peanuts. Serves 8. Yummy ! Time tested Winner ! | Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie
5: Blueberry Streusel Coffee Cake | Cake: 2 c. flour 1 c. sugar 1 egg 3 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 1/3 c. softened butter 1 c. milk 1 c. blueberries Preheat oven to 350. Beat all ingredients, except blueberries in large bowl on a low speed for 30 seconds. Then beat on a medium speed for 2 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally. Grease a 9 x 13 or 9 x 9 inch pan. Spread half the batter in the pan. Sprinkle 1 c. of blueberries over batter, then top with the rest of the batter. Streusel Topping: 1/2 c. chopped walnuts 1/3 c. brown sugar 1/4 c. flour 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 3 Tbsp. butter Mix all ingredients together until crumbly. Sprinkle on top of cake. Bake in oven for 40 minutes.
6: Crust: 1 c. sifted flour 1/4 c. sugar 1 tsp. grated lemon peel 1/2 c. butter 1 slightly beaten egg yolk 1/4 tsp. vanilla Combine flour, sugar and grated lemon peel. Cut in butter until mixture is crumbly. Add egg yolk and vanilla, blend thoroughly. Pat 1/3 of dough on bottom of a 10 inch spring form pan (sides removed). Bake at 400 for 8 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool. Attach side to pan and pat remaining dough on sides to height of 2 inches. Filling: 5 (8 oz.) cream cheese, softened 1/4 tsp. vanilla 3/4 tsp. grated lemon peel 1 3/4 c. sugar 3 Tbsp. flour 1/4 tsp. salt 4-5 eggs (1 cup) 2 egg yolks 1/4 c. heavy cream Beat cream cheese until creamy. Add vanilla and peel. Mix sugar, flour and salt gradually add to cheese mixture. Add eggs and yolk, 1 at a time, beating after each addition. Gently stir in whipping cream. Turn into crust lined pan. Bake at 450 for 12 minutes. Reduce oven to 300 and continue baking for 55 minutes or until knife comes out clean. Let cool 1/2 hour; loosen sides. Remove sides after 1 hour. Let cool 2 more hours. Tastes best chilled. Eat plain or glaze with favorite fruit. | Unbeatable Cheesecake
7: Quick and Easy One Bowl Brownies | 4 square Baker’s unsweetened Chocolate 1 stick butter 2 C. sugar 3 eggs beaten 1 t. vanilla 1 C. flour 1 C. chopped nuts Heat chocolate and butter in large glass bowl until melted Stir in sugar Mix in eggs and vanilla Stir in flour and nuts Spread in greased 9” x 13” pan Bake at 350 for 30-35 minutes Makes 24 This was perfect for cub-scout night because I could whip it up in 5 minutes!
8: 2 c. flour 1 tsp. salt 3/4 c. Crisco Cut dough with 2 steak knives until dough looks like oatmeal. Add 6 Tbsp. ice water, mix with fork, then roll up in a ball. Refrigerate 10 minutes. Cut in half, roll out and mold around pie dish. Follow with favorite pie recipe. Makes two crusts. | Vreeland's Family Pie Crust
9: Apple Pie | 6-8 Empire, Cortland or Northern Spy apples sliced 2 tsp. cinnamon 1 c. sugar 2 Tbsp. flour Prepare pastry for 2 crusts. Mix ingredients, pour into bottom shell. Top with second crust, Seal & slit. Bake 10 minutes 425 turn down to 350 and bake additional 45-60 minutes.
10: Peach Pie 8 peaches 3 Tbsp. flour 1 c. sugar Slice, mix up and fill pie crust shell. Top with pie crust top. Bake 425, 10 minutes. Lower to 350 bake additional 40-50 minutes. Blueberry Pie Prepare pastry for 2 crusts. Combine 4 cups (or 5 if using 10" pie plate) fresh blueberries with 3/4 c - 1 c sugar. 3 plus Tbsp. of flour (4-5 Tbsp. if using frozen berries) Dash salt. Sprinkle lemon juice over berries once they are in pie plate. Fill and adjust top crust, slit for escape of steam. Seal edges. Bake 425 for 10 minutes. Lower to 350 for additional 50-60 minutes. | Fruit Pies
11: Pumpkin Pecan Pie | 1 unbaked 9" pie shell 4 slightly beaten eggs 2 c. mashed cooked pumpkin (or canned) 3/4 c. sugar 1/2 c. dark corn syrup 1 tsp. vanilla 1 tsp. cinnamon 1/4 tsp. salt 1 c. chopped pecans Combine ingredients except pecans. Pour into pie shell. Top with pecans. Bake 350 for 40-50 minutes.
12: 1 Pie Crust 6-8 Empire, Cortland or Northern Spy apples, peeled and sliced 2 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 c. sugar 2 Tbsp. flour 1 c. butterscotch chips Topping 1 c. flour 1/3 c. sugar 1/2 c. butter - 1 stick Mix topping ingredients and cut until crumbly. Set aside. Mix 2 tsp. cinnamon, sugar and flour together. Mix in butterscotch chip. Mix in apples until completely covered. Pour in pie shell. Sprinkle topping over apples and bake at 425 for 10 minutes then lower to 350 for 60 minutes. | Apple Crumb Pie with Butterscotch
13: Ice Cream Cake | 2 9 inch round cake pans 2 - 1/2 gallons ice cream (2 kinds) 1/2 pkg. Oreo cookies (Reese cups broken) Chocolate syrup 1 12oz. cool whip Crush Oreos or break up Reese's Peanut Butter cups. Press down in pan. Put softened ice cream on top and chocolate syrup. Freeze. Spread cool whip all over and freeze again. Decorate any way you like Great for the boys birthdays !
14: 1 pkg. Duncan Hines Yellow Cake Mix 4 c. flour 2 c. sugar 1 c. brown sugar 3 sticks butter 1 Tbsp. vanilla 2 Tbsp. cinnamon Prepare cake mix to box instructions. Bake on cookie sheet or 9" x 13" While baking, melt butter and vanilla. Mix all dry ingredients. Add butter mixture to dry mixture. This makes the crumbs. After 1/2 hour take cake out of oven and sprinkle crumb mixture over cake. Put back in oven for 1/2 hour. | Heavy Crumb Cake
15: Sour Cream Crumb Cake | 1 c. sugar 1/2 c. Crisco 1 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. baking soda 2 eggs 2 c. flour 1 c. sour cream 1 tsp. vanilla 1 tsp. salt Cinnamon Filling - Mix in small bowl - 1/4 c. sugar, 1 tsp.; cinnamon, 1/2 c. chopped nuts Crumb Topping - Mix and cut until creamy - 1 c. flour, 1/3 c. sugar, 1 stick butter. Cream butter and sugar thoroughly. Add eggs one at a time and beat well. Sift dry ingredients together and add to cream mixture alternately with sour cream. Grease pan (tube pan or spring form) and put 1/2 dough in pan. Top with cinnamon filling. Put rest of dough on top. Sprinkle top with butter crumb topping. Bake 350 40-50 minutes Blueberry Crumb Cake add 1 1/2 c. - 2 c. blueberries.
16: Pie Crust: 2 c. flour 1 tsp. salt 3/4 c. Crisco Combine all ingredients in bowl. With 2 steak knives cut dough until it looks like oatmeal. May finish with pastry cutter. Add 6 tablespoons of ice water, mix with fork, then roll up in a ball. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 10 minutes. Cut ball in half and roll out on a well floured board. Fit into a 8 or 9 inch pie plate. Flute edges. Filling: 6-8 Empire or McIntosh apples 2 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 c. sugar 2 Tbsp. flour Peel and slice apples into eighths. Mix with the cinnamon, sugar and flour. Place on top of crust. Crumb Topping: 1 c. flour 1/3 c. sugar 1/2 c. butter (1 stick) Mix together with pastry cutter, sprinkle on top of apples. Bake 425 for 10 min. then bake 350 approx. 1 hour | Famous Apple Crumb Pie
17: Fresh Strawberry Pie | 1 9 inch baked pie shell 1 small pkg. softened cream cheese 1 qt. fresh strawberries, washed, hulled, dried and sliced 3/4 c. water 3 Tbsp. cornstarch 1/2-1 c. sugar (to taste) 1 Tbsp. butter 1 - 8oz. Cool whip or fresh whipped cream In saucepan combine mashed berries to equal 1 cup, water, cornstarch and sugar. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened. Add butter, then cool slightly. Meanwhile spread cream cheese on the bottom of the pie shell, and place the sliced berries on top. Then pour the thickened mixture over berries and cool thoroughly. Top with whipped cream and few strawberry halves. Time tested Winner!
18: 1 3/4 c. flour 2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt Sift and set aside. In separate large bowl mix 1 c. sugar, 1/4 c. Crisco and 1 egg. Slowly add dry ingredients. Then add 1/2 c milk and 1 tsp. vanilla. Stir in 1 1/4 cups blueberries that have been tossed in flour. Pour into greased muffin tins. Bake 375 for 20 minutes. Makes 18 | Blueberry Muffins
19: Blueberry Crumb Cake | Bottom Layer 2 c. flour 2 tsp. baking powder 1/4 tsp. salt 3/4 c. milk 1 tsp. vanilla 1/4 c. shortening 1 c. sugar 1 egg Mix together and spread onto sprayed cookie sheet. Add 1 c. blueberries on top. Top Layer 3 c. flour 2 1/2 sticks butter 1 c. sugar 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon Crumble like crumbs. Sprinkle on top of berries and bake 350 for 35-40 minutes.
20: 4 large eggs 2 c. sugar 1 c. vegetable oil 1 tsp. vanilla 2 c. flour 1/2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. baking powder 2 tsp. cinnamon 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda 3 c. loosely packed grated carrots Grease and flour 2 9inch round cake pans. In large bowl, beat eggs, sugar, oil and vanilla until combined. Add flour, cinnamon and baking soda. Stir until batter is smooth. Gently fold in carrots. Bake 350 for 30-35 minutes. Cool on wire racks, remove from pans and frost. Cream Cheese Frosting 1/2 c. butter or margarine softened 1 8oz. cream cheese softened. Mix together until smooth, then slowly beat in 1 16oz. box of confectioner's sugar until combined. Also can add small can of drained crushed pineapple. YUM. | Carrot Cake
21: 30 Day Friendship Cake | First Ten Days: In a Large Glass Container (like the “Sun-Tea” jar) Place the following ingredients: 1 pint of starter (you’ll know what this is at the end of the recipe) 2 Cups Sugar 1 large can sliced peaches (drained) DO NOT REFRIGERATE STIR each morning for 10 Days Second Ten Days: Add 1 large can crushed pineapple (drained) 2 cups sugar STIR each morning for 10 days Third Ten Days: Add three 8 ounce jars of cherries (sliced in half with juice) Stir each morning for 10 days DRAIN FRUIT (will give enough for 3 cakes) (Save Juice: will give enough for 3 “starters”)
22: Cake: 1 box Betty Crocker “Moist” yellow cake mix (with pudding) Add 1 box instant vanilla pudding, 4 eggs , 1 cup oil, 1 cup chopped walnuts, 1 cup of drained fruit mixture- MIX to blend (not too much)- BAKE in greased (& floured) BUNDT TUBE PAN for 1 hour at 325 Cool-Dust with powered sugar [Fruit can be kept in refrigerator for months. JUICE also can be kept in refrigerator for some months] My girlfriends and I would make this annually when the kids were small. I would often bring a cake as a gift to a friend and include a jar of the starter syrup. | 30 Day Friendship Cake Continued
23: 1 c butter (softened) 1 c sugar 2 Tbsp. milk 1 tsp. vanilla 2 c flour (sifted before measuring) 3/4 c chopped candied cherries (red and green) 1/2 c chopped nuts 3/4 c coconut Cream butter and sugar. Beat in milk and vanilla. Stir in flour (1/4 at a time) Mix cherries and nuts. Divide into 2 rolls each 10” by 2” in diameter. Roll in coconut and chill in wax paper. Slice and place 1” apart on ungreased pan. Bake 375 oven for 10-12 min. | Santa’s Whiskers
24: 3 Tbsp. margarine 1 pkg. (10oz. about 40) regular marshmallows or 4 c. miniature marshmallows 6 c. Kellogg’s Rice Krispies cereal Vegetable cooking spray Melt margarine in large saucepan over low heat. Add Marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat. Add Rice Krispies, stir until well coated. Using buttered spatula or waxed paper, press mixture evenly into 13 x 9 x 2 inch pan coated with cooking spray. Cut into 2” squares when cool. | Rice Krispie Treats
25: Rum Nog | 1 quart eggnog Stir in 12oz. dark rum Fold in 1 c. heavy cream Chill – Stir in tsp. nutmeg Serves 6-10 | 1/2 gal rainbow sherbet 2 cans red Hawaiian punch 1 qt. frozen strawberries 64 oz. ginger ale (20 oz. vodka) Mix all ingredients except the sherbet together in punch bowl. Add sherbet right before you are ready to serve. Spiked or not spiked! | Shower Punch
26: "My mother always included this dish at our Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, and there was never any left over." Original Recipe Yield 8 servings Ingredients 2 pounds small white onions 1/4 cup butter 1/4 cup all-purpose flour 2 cups half-and-half 1 pinch ground nutmeg 1 pinch salt 2 drops hot pepper sauce Directions Cut ends off onions and place in a large pot of water. Bring to boil; remove from water and cool slightly. Slip skins off and return onions to water. Simmer until tender. In a saucepan, melt butter and gradually stir in flour until smooth. Cook over low heat for 5 minutes, stirring constantly. In a separate saucepan, scald half and half, gradually whisk into butter mixture. Add nutmeg, salt and pepper sauce; add onions and cook until thick and smooth. | Creamed Onions | Side Dish
27: Scalloped Potatoes | Serves 8 3 large peeled potatoes (raw) and sliced 2-3 onions (shredded or sliced thin) 1 T. flour Salt and pepper 1 C. shredded cheese Milk Butter the bottom of the casserole dish Add layer of sliced potatoes Sprinkle with salt and pepper Sprinkle with flour Add slices of onions on top Sprinkle cheddar cheese Repeat and continue on with layers until done Pour milk over top until covered Bake @ 350 for approximately 1 hour Enjoy!
28: (A staple for my annual Thanksgiving dinner) 4 large sweet potatoes, peeled, boiled and mashed 1 stick butter 1/3 C. brown sugar 1 t. vanilla 1 t. cinnamon 2 eggs well beaten Blend all ingredients together in a large bowl, and place into a greased 7” x 11” pan (Could use 9” x 13”) Topping: 1 C. walnuts or pecans 1/3 C. brown sugar 1/3 C. butter C. flour Mix well & pour over potatoes Bake until bubbly! Serve to a room full of company! | Sweet Potato Casserole
29: 6 slices of bread 1 lb. uncooked large shrimp 1/2 lb. old English Cheese 1/4 C. butter melted 1/2 t. dry mustard 2 lg. eggs beaten 1 pt. milk 3 cloves garlic, diced In skillet, sauté peeled shrimp and garlic in butter. Break bread and cheese into bite-size pieces Arrange shrimp, bread and cheese in several layers in 3 Qt. buttered casserole dish Pour melted butter over this mixture Beat eggs, milk, mustard and salt together in separate bowl Pour over the top of casserole Refrigerate overnight (or for a minimum of 3 hours) Bake at 350 covered for 1 hour Delicious | Shrimp & Cheese Casserole
30: 18 eggs Hard-boiled Mayonnaise Dry mustard Salt and pepper 1 t. Vinegar Scoop out the yolks of hard-boiled eggs in large bowl and keep the whites Add all other ingredients to taste Blend thoroughly Scoop into egg whites Favorite picnic treat | Simple Deviled Eggs
31: Thanksgiving Day favorite-everyone gathers around the Halahan’s center-island in the middle of the kitchen, waiting for the oven to open! 1 1/2 C. Italian bread crumbs 2 large onions (diced in the food processor) 8 cloves garlic minced 6 t. fresh parsley 1/4 t. dried oregano 1/2 C. olive oil 40 oz of minced clams with juice (I use canned) In a large skillet, heat oil, don’t burn Sauté garlic, onions, parsley, oregano, & bread crumbs until brown Pour in clams complete with juice Sauté for several minutes until all ingredients are heated evenly Spoon into shells, sprinkle with Parmesan cheese Bake 375 for 25 minutes Serve – Especially on Thanksgiving as a Halahan tradition (Don’t throw out my clam shells!) | Stuffed Clams
32: 1 - 8 oz. cream cheese 1 can Hormel chili - no beans 1/4 lb. Monterey jack cheese with jalapeno peppers In a 9 inch pie plate layer cream cheese, chili, with cheese on top to cover. Microwave until cheese is completely melted. Serve with nachos or favorite chips. This recipe used to be the 7-Layer Mexican Dip recipe. However, over time, the gourmet Halahan-Boys reduced it to these 3 ingredients. | "Lake Dip"
33: Original Recipe for "Lake Dip" 2 8oz. cream cheese, softened 1/2 cup sour cream 1 8oz. mild or medium salsa chopped lettuce tomato cubes grated Cheddar cheese (or whatever you like) sliced black olives (optional) tortilla chips or nacho chips Mix together cream cheese, sour cream, and salsa. Pour into a pie plate or bowl. Top with chopped lettuce, tomato cubes and grated cheese. Add olives, if desired. Serve with chips. | Seven Layer Mexican Dip
34: 1 lb. cooked fettuccine 4 T. butter 2 C. heavy cream 1 t. salt 3 C. fresh Parmesan cheese, grated Crab meat chunks (can be bought frozen, then thaw and chunk) Or Crab meat can be bought fresh Heat butter and cream in small pan until butter is melted Stir in Parmesan, salt and pepper, crab meat and sauté lightly until warm Place noodles in pan and coat completely with cream/crab sauce If you like shrimp, you can make the same recipe with shrimp This is an easy “show-off” dish. | Crab Meat Alfredo | Main Dish
35: 1/3 C. oil Red potatoes, washed and sliced 1 large red onion 2-3 T. oregano (more if you’re Butch!) 2-3 T. garlic powder (Butch likes it with a lot of garlic and salt too) Butter Place oil in bottom of 9” x 13” roasting pan Wash potatoes and cut into bite size pieces (leave skin on) Cover with foil and Bake at 350 for 45 minutes | Butch's Oregano Potatoes
36: 2 lb. frozen hash browns, thawed 1/2 C. chopped onion 1/2 C. melted butter 2 C. grated cheddar cheese 1 can Cream of Chicken Soup (Campbell’s) Salt and pepper to taste 1 C. sour cream Bread crumbs Mix all ingredients together, (except 1/4 C. melted butter and bread crumbs) Place into buttered 9” x 13” casserole Pour on the reserved 1/4 C. melted butter Sprinkle with bread crumbs Bake at 350 for 70 minutes My boys loved this with pot roast | Potato Casserole
37: One of my favorites after our family Thanksgiving celebration (That is if Butch and the Boys don’t pick the carcass clean before I get to it!) Serves 6 4 oz. cooked thin spaghetti 3 T. butter 1 can (4 oz.) sliced 1/3 cup finely minced onion 3 T. flour 2 cups chicken broth or milk 1/2 c light cream 1/4 c Dry Vermouth 1 t. salt Dash of pepper 3/4 C. graded Parmesan cheese 2 C. diced cooked turkey (Continued) | Turkey Tetrazzini
38: Turkey Tetrazzini (Continued) 1. In frying pan, sauté in butter the mushrooms and onions. 2. Add flour and mix to form a smooth paste 3. Cover and cook on high for a few minutes 4. Stir in broth or milk, cream, vermouth, salt, pepper and 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese 5. Blend well 6. Cook uncovered until mixture comes to a boil and begins to thicken 7. Add cooked spaghetti, turkey and remainder of cheese 8. Cook on low for 10-15 minutes until hot Serve! Delicious! Enjoy!
39: My mother did it this way, and even though I knew it by heart, I referred to this recipe every year at Thanksgiving. Wash your turkey Salt and pepper the bird Crisco the bottom of the bird and butter the legs Wrap aluminum foil loosely around the legs and wings Place a sheet of aluminum foil loosely over the top of the bird Bake at 325 for approximately 20 minutes per pound of bird At the last hour, remove the foil and brown up the bird Happy Thanksgiving Greta and Stephen! | Thanksgiving Turkey
40: 8 slices white bread, crusts removed 1/2 lb. Monterey Jack cheese shredded 1/2 lb. Sharp Cheddar cheese shredded 6 eggs 1 tsp. dry mustard (regular) 4 c. milk 1 lb. cooked bacon crumbled Butter a 9” x 13” dish. Alternate layers of bread, cheeses and bacon. Beat eggs and combine with dry mustard and milk. Pour over bread and cheese layers. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight. Bake at 350 for 1 hour. 41: Serves 8 2- 8 oz. packages of chopped spinach thawed 1 lb. bulk Italian sausage 1- 8 oz. can tomato sauce 2 C. cream style cottage cheese 1/2 C. 44: Lightly flour your counter-top or bread board Turn dough onto floured surface Knead dough for 8-10 minutes Place in buttered bowl, cover with moist cheese cloth (or dish towel) Put bowl in warm place (near furnace or warmest room) and let rise until doubled in bulk Should take about 30 minutes Shape dough into rolls and let stand again for about 40 minutes When the rolls rise again, (about 40 minutes) Place rolls in buttered aluminum pan (4 across, 6 down) Brush top of rolls with butter Bake at 375 for 17 minutes or until done (be sure to check on them at 16 minutes!) 46: Makes 2 loaves 3 eggs 1 C. salad oil 2 C. sugar 1 C. raisins 2 C. grated zucchini 2 t. cinnamon 1 t. salt 1 t. baking soda 1 t. baking powder 3 C. sifted flour 1 C. chopped walnuts 1 t. nutmeg 1 t. ground cloves Mix all ingredients together in 1 large bowl Stir with large spoon until thoroughly mixed Pour batter into 2 greased loaf pans Bake at 350 for 55-65 minutes (babysitting the pan at the end) This very moist bread can take a while to bake, but be sure not to over bake Insert knife to check bread. At the end of their meal, the waiter brought them each a delicious chocolate chip cookie, complement of the chef. The ladies so enjoyed the cookies, they asked for the recipe. 49: 1 10 oz. package of fresh spinach 1/2 C. thinly sliced red onions in rings 8 oz. fresh mushrooms sliced 2 T. sesame seeds 3 T. Cider vinegar 2 T. water 2 T. honey 1 T. Dijon mustard 1 T. vegetable oil 1/2 t. pepper 1/2 t. salt 1 garlic clove minced 2 hard boiled eggs 4-5 slices of cooked bacon, crumbled Tear spinach into bite-sized pieces and place in large bowl Add onion and mushrooms and set aside Combine seed and next 7 ingredients in a jar Cover and shake vigorously Pour over salad and toss well before serving Add hard boiled eggs and bacon on top Serve and enjoy | Spinach Salad
50: 4-5 lbs. of veal * 1 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. pepper 3 onions, quartered 4-5 stalks celery 1 lb. bag carrots sliced - water to cover 6 beef bouillon cubes 3/4 c of soupettes, barley or favorite pasta 1 tomato cut in plum size pieces 10 oz. bag of fresh spinach cut up 2 Tbsp. olive oil Parmesan cheese Put first 7 ingredients in large pot. Simmer 1 1/2 hours. Remove bones and dice meat from bone. Remove marrow from bone and mash. Return meat and marrow to stock. Add bouillon cubes. Cook soupettes in separate pot until tender, rinse and add to pot. Add tomatoes and bring to a boil. Saute chopped spinach in olive oil and add to soup. 51: 1 family pkg. boneless chicken breasts 1 can cream of mushroom soup 1 can mushroom pieces or fresh mushroom 2 cans Franco American chicken gravy 1 onion chopped fine dash pepper and salt 3/4 c. Marsala wine Wash off chicken, pound to tenderize. Dip chicken pieces in a beaten egg, roll in bread crumbs. Fry pieces, using oil in pan until meat is golden brown. Using drippings of the pan, combine onion, gravy, soup, mushroom, salt and pepper. Pour over chicken and bake for 1 hour at 350. After 45 min. cover with foil to keep sauce from burning. 52: 8 pork chops 2 large onions, sliced and separated into rings 1/4 tsp. garlic powder 6 c. sauerkraut, drained 1 unpeeled apple sliced 1 1/2 tsp. caraway seeds 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. thyme 1/2 tsp. pepper 1 1/2 c. apple juice Place half of onions, garlic powder, sauerkraut, apple slices and caraway seeds in crockpot. 53: 1/2 c butter or margarine 2-2 1/2 lbs. large shrimp, peeled and cleaned 4-6 cloves garlic, minced 1/3 c. parsley, chopped 2 Tbsp. lemon 1/4 tsp. pepper Melt butter in skillet, add shrimp and garlic. Saute, stirring constantly for 3-5 min. until shrimp turns pink. Stir in remaining ingredients. Stir 2-3 min. longer. Serve with fresh lemon wedges over rice.
