Prime Number A prime number is, if it is greater than one and has no divisors other than 1 and itself. Example:1,2,3,5,6,7...

Composite Number A composite number can be divided evenly by numbers other than 1 or itself. Example: 9 can be divided evenly by 1, 3 and 9, so 9 is a composite number.

Inverse Operation The operation that reverses the effect of another operation. Example: Addition and Subtraction Example: Multiplication and Division

Least Common Multiple The smallest number that is a multiple of two or more numbers. Example: the least common multiple of 3 and 5 is 15, because 15 is a multiple of 3 also multiple of 5.

Rational Numbers | Any number that can be made by dividing one integer by another. The word comes from "ratio". Example:1/2 is a rational number (1 divided by 2, or the ratio of 1 to 2) 0.75 is a rational number (3/4)

Irrational Numbers | A number that cannot be written as a simple fraction - the decimal goes on forever without repeating. Example: Pi is an irrational number

Coefficient | A number used to multiply a variable Example: 6z means 6 times z, and "z" is a variable, so 6 is a coefficient

Expression vs. Equation | An expression has an equal sign and a equation doesn't | Ex. Ten is five less than a number. 10 = x - 5 A number is less than five. x < 5 Ex. a number less than five x five less than a number x - 5

Slope Intercept Form | The slope intercept form is probably the most frequently used way to express equation of a line. To be able to use slope intercept form, all that you need to be able to do is 1) find the slope of a line and 2) find the y-intercept of a line.

Function | A function is a special relationship between values: Each of its input values gives back exactly one output value. Example: f(x) = x/2 ("f of x is x divided by 2") is a function, because for every value of "x" you get another value "x/2". So: * f(2) = 1 * f(16) 8 * f(-10) -5
