S: 2011 Johnston family fun

BC: Song of Mike "While the storm clouds gather far across the sea, Let us swear allegiance to a land that's free, Let us all be grateful for a land so fair, As we raise our voices in a solemn prayer. " God Bless America, Food that I love. Nine dollar ham, two dollar cheese Up at night with a light from above. From the freezer, to the table, To my dinner, in my home God bless America, and my cheap ham bone.

One Saturday in March we piled into the car and drove to Seattle. It was a lovely day - we went to the pier and ate fish and chips with the Vanderschaaf's, and Laura bought something 'bacon' (what was that again...?) for Father's Day. It was a good day.

 American Graffiti

We tried as much junk food as we could find room for - YUM! - Who were they even playing? No idea.... score? pffft but was it fun? of course! You're with the Johnstons!

CELEBRATE CANADA DAY - american style! Off to Seaside Oregon for the week. A quick stop for fireworks and it's time to set up camp at the local UHaul right off the main drag. Only in America. Bonnie's sister is coming the next day, but we're ready with red, blue and white ribbons, flags, hats, shirts, stars, blowup things, etc etc...oy

I challenge you to a gunfight!

Bonnie was in charge of making the traditional amazing chicken - which always tastes better at the beach! Yum! Thanks Bon! | Shower Tales. A great idea, and in many ways, a brilliant one. Fill a bag with hot water, hang it above you let gravity do the rest, while you stand there. A good concept, but 50 lbs of water does not easily hang from a weak aluminum frame. In the end, someone had to shower with you - to hold the frame from twisting and killing you, to help you in and out, to call out for help in case you slipped.... to be there to watch you die if the bag fell on you. You had to be on a chair or on your knees, and basically, you went in not knowing if you would come out.

 Dinner at the beach!

This was the second night of the mango. The first night was a quiet introduction for Bonnie and Joanne. Bonnie questioned the ingredients.... one being wormwood oil... Hmmm seemed odd, but Joanne, being fond of the mango, purchased additional mango. The mango was not good to Joanne. Wormwood oil is questionably legal........Enough said.

 The Candyman

At a church down the road, after the parade, what should you find? An old fashioned social!! Hamburgers, sodas and pie carnival games from years gone by! Even a caricature guy! | At a church down the road, after the parade, what should you find? An old fashioned social!! Hamburgers, sodas and pie carnival games from years gone by! 25: oh it looks so easy. It's harder than it looks, unless you are in the basket up front. They fought over who would drive... and although we lived,... none of them should be buying a car just yet. | oh it looks so easy. It's harder than it looks, unless you are in the basket up front. 26: Digging the hole. Redigging the hole. Moving the hole, Filling in the hole. | 4th of July - amazing day. We came out to the beach for dinner. Bonnie's chicken was still warm and we went to the store to get NOT MANGO. We had one Mango left and Ron was looking forward to it. Have at 'er. Ron and Joanne dug and dug and dug. The others whined and worried and pointed. Eventually a non-regulation hole was excavated (max 6"... yaaaa "we thought 6METRES officer! We're Canadian!") No cops or firemen or ANYONE came around EVER, and there were FIRES and fireworks going off EVERYWHERE all night long. Amazing. At 8pm, the city did their fireworks show - for over an hour - all the while people were shooting off their own. It was great. Chicken, cake and fireworks.

Mo's Chowder. yum. | Last day by the ocean. We all piled into the car and drove to Cannon Beach and went to Mo's Diner for clam chowder. YUM!

Goodbyes... booo | One last sightsee before heading home | ASTORIA COLUMN

That's it! We stopped at an outlet store and went a little crazy - but it was a quick stop. We were home around 9pm and back to real life. Fantastic weather! Great company! Thanks for the memories - thanks for letting me tag along!
