2: Mesopotamia | Mesopotamia had very limited resources. They believed in many different gods. The Mesopotamia civilization used irrigation to grow crops. They invented the 60 second unit which is still used today. Hammurabi came up with the code-laws (an eye for an eye. City states were always at war with each other for power. The written language in Mesopotamia was cuneiform.
3: Mesopotamia Continued | Slavery was a big part in Mesopotamia. Mesopotamia is located between two rivers, also know as the fertile crescent. The invention of the plow made farming a lot easier in the fertile crescent.
4: Egypt | When the Nile River overflows it produces fertile land and silt. Egypt is surrounded by desert. Egypt came up with the mummification process of preserving the bodied for the after life. The Nile River is one of the few rivers that flow south to north. Egypt's climate is very hot and dry. Egypt's people built tombs know as pyramids for the Pharaoh. Slavery took place in Egypt to help build the pyramids. Their writing was called hieroglyphics.
5: Egypt continued | They also believed in many gods Egypt was divided into upper and lower kingdoms until 3000 B.C
6: Indus Valley | The Indus Vally is located on a subcontinent. They began the Hindu culture. Had a strong central government. Built major buildings in the center (known as citadel) Seasons winds that bring rain in, dry out air for the civilization. Came up with the grid system for cities. The Himalayas Mountains are located towards the north. Rivers often flood.
7: Indus Valley continued | Located between the Indus and the Ganges rivers. They invited the plumbing and sewage system.
8: China | Located between the Yellow and Yangtze River. Made buildings out of wood. China worshiped in the ancestors and they believed that they would bring good luck. Found new ideas for flood control and irrigation. Gobi desert is located to the north. Himalayas are located to the south. Ruler had divine approval ( know as Mandate of Heaven )
9: When the rivers flooded they left behind fertile soil for farming. Believed in Feudalism. China saw their culture as the center of the civilized world. | China continued
