5: K R Y S T Y N A S I K O R A | INTRODUCTION | K | rystyna Sikora pursued a clear artistic goal, creating images of great emotional intensity, through variations of subject matter, changes in style and color. The year 1982 was marked by large series of detailed sketches produced in pencil while the artist attempted to enroll at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk. | Krystyna began to experiment with oils in early 1982 displaying a truly simple style and technique. The "Le Châateau Fort De Lourdes" was the artist's first painting. Krystyna's career in the art world began at the age 22, at which time she worked as a letterer and a creative designer of exhibition at the University of Physical Education and Sport in Gdansk. It was an unsurprised choice of career. Krystyna Sikora was born on November 16, 1963 in Gdansk, principal Polish seaport, to political activist Mieczyslaw Wedrowski and his wife, Aleksandra Konopinska. Her childhood was surrounded by the beauty of countryside and most exceptional historical sites in Europe; museums, theaters, cathedrals, this was perhaps one of the reasons for her excessively emotional imagination in later years. In 1982, Krystyna was employed as a customs control officer and began working at Polish customs service in Gdynia. In 1983, she was promoted and with a promotion came a move to Warsaw to study customs law. | 5 | 2007 "Aleksandra Konopinska" Mother Portrait 24" x 36"

6: Krystyna had developed a strong affection for planning and home design, hence she decided to return to school to study extra-mural in building architecture draftsmanship program. She enrolled at the Trade Academy in Krakow. Krystyna was an extremely faithful student, easily expressing the areas she had grown to love. Later in 1988, based on Krystyna's own original home design she grew increasingly interested in architecture and devoted much time studying these styles. The first of first Krystyna's drawings was a copy of "Old Woman Sewing" by Van Gogh. This sketch executed in charcoal, was an one hour sitting artwork executed while facing a panoramic view of modern buildings in Oliwa, and studying the rules of perspective with Art Master, Ryszard Kul, in 1976. | Also in 1982, Krystyna produced "Battle of Rajska Street", a large size sketch in charcoal strongly influenced by Martial Law in Poland, which referred to drastically restricted life between 1981-1983. "Pro-democracy movement Solidarity, smaller organizations were banned and their leaders detained overnight. In the morning, thousands of soldiers in military vehicles patrolled streets of every major city. A curfew was imposed, the national borders were sealed, airports were closed, and road access to main cities was restricted. Telephone lines were disconnected, mail was subject to postal censorship, classes in schools and at universities were suspended." Later in 2006, amongst others appeared "Phenomenon of Independence", an oil on canvas to give the viewer an image of looking at a real scene with the sense of independence which was masterfully hidden over 25 years. | 2006 "Phenomenon of Independence" 24" x 36" Poland | 6

7: K R Y S T Y N A S I K O R A | In 1989 Krystyna had hoped to pursue her passion for astrology. She enrolled in the Academy of Ecology in Wroclaw, determinated to study Mantic Art. She found references and inspiration directly from nature, stars and planets in the pursuit of her own artistic goals. Krystyna was quite attracted by the sky at night. The "Ophius Constellation" presented itself as a new experience and opened a window into the life of the artist. The bright waves of the line pattern against a dark deep sky contrasts a static male figure in the foreground. The "Ophius Constellation" was executed entirely spontaneous in 2009. This is one of the artist's canvases that was executed under conditions of the heist and pure instinct. | In the spring of 1982, Krystyna enrolled as a student at the Academy of Art in Gdansk. However she did not remain there past the first semester as her standard's tutor insisted her work was not up to par. Krystyna was especially fascinated by oils and spend much time studying the works of Nikifor Krynicki and others at the Museum of Art in Oliwa. Oliwa had a great impact on Krystyna; scenery of the old town and the elegant cathedrals of past centuries brought her even closer to focus on art. No wonder these old architectural images had such power in shaping Krystyna's life. | 2009 "Ophius Constellation" 20" x 24" | 7

8: I N T R O D U C T I O N | "Red Feathery Clown Plying Drum" is a painting featuring all the energy that Krystyna was attracted to during that time. With 750 years of successful tradition, the history of the Saint Dominic's Fair in Gdansk greeted Polish artists, artisans, and collectors every year. The true "gem" of St.Dominic's fair was deeply hidden. It all began in Krystyna's mind with a simple desire to be there, to use talent and her energy to define where she belongs to. Krystyna emphasized the idea of distance using a different stylistic perspective - a chess board. In terms of palette, this artwork was comfortable and joyful to look at. | Krystyna Sikora never thought of herself as being a portrait artist. However, in late 2005 she permitted herself to paint as many as three self-portraits at one sitting - "Loneliness", "Do Not Cry" and "The Soul Departure" - in which she folds a struggle with her own experiences. The women standing along the invisible wall in "Loneliness" are almost completely camouflaged by wardrobe, color, and their surroundings. The woman within the foreground passing by the scene, apart from the other women, personally hypnotized by the effects of loneliness. | 2011 "Red Feathery Clown Plying Drum" 36" x 48" | 2005 " Loneliness" | 8 | KRYSTYNA SIKORA
