2: The Set Up | This is an example of the wall, composed of 4 sides each 18 tiles long and two tiles high. East rolls the dice to where to break the wall.

4: Chows = sequence of 3 in a row | Pung = 3 of the same number in the same suit | Kong = 4 of the same number in the same suit | Dragons in green, white and red. Also known as cardinals | Dragon Sequence = 3 sets 123,456,789. Each sequence of 3 must be the same suit, but there can be up to 3 suits total. 5: By definition, mahjong is a combination of 4 sets of 3 tiles + a pair (eye). This example doesn't have any point value. (FANS). The fans come from the different combinations of the tile sets which are outlined on the following pages | the 3 numbered suits, crack, bamboo, and circle | winds | flowers

6: 1 Fan | all chows, (numbers only) | 2 Suits | no 1's or 9's must have 14 number tiles | no winds, no dragons, no flowers

7: eye is a pair of 2s 5s or 8s | Dragon sequence in 2 suits | young and old | All tiles, except the final tile to mahjong, are exposed | 1 Fan

8: Cousins (3,4,5) (3,4,5) | 2 hidden pungs | using all 4 of the identical tile in 2 sets | 2 Kongs | 1 Fan

9: All Pung hand, waiting with 2 pair in hand. Last tile may not be self drawn | Pung or kong of dragons | 1 Fan | Other combinations that count for 1 fan Self drawn - pick your mahjong tile from the wall Single position (only 1 specfic tile to mahjong ie. 17: 6 FANS | 3 pungs of the same number | 3 identical sequences in the same suit | 3 numbers: All tiles limited to 3 numbers. ALL wind, pung/pair count as only 1 number, same for dragons | Common number: all chows, pungs and pair must include the common number | 8 FANS

18: 11 Fans | 2 pair of sisters: 2 identical chows in the same suit and a 2nd set of 2 identical chows. The 2 sets do not need to be in the same suit. Any pair | Purity: all one suit

19: Three pungs using cardinal tiles, 3 red, 3 green, 3 white | Pungs using 3 winds and 4th wind as eye | Disconnect: all 13 tiles AT THE BEGINNING of play, at least 2 numbers apart | All Pungs, using only winds, cardinals, 1s & 9s

20: 14 FANS | All pungs, using only 2, 5, 8 | All pungs hidden waiting for eye or All pungs hidden & self drawn | Winds and dragons only | Only 2 numbers | This example is also 1/2 high, 1/2 low for an additional 4 fans

21: 1s and 9s only, all pungs | 17 Fans | Pung all 4 winds. Eye can be any pair

22: LIMIT HANDS | 4 identical chows in the same suit. Eye can be anything | 13 angels, one of each wind, dragon, 1 & 9. Pair of any one of them | 13 Gates | These hands have a limit on their point value, which is decided upon by the group
