FC: Year 7 PDHPE Assessment By: Mariam Jabbour
My name is Mariam Jabbour and I am an 11 year old girl who is in year 7B and goes to St Charbel's College. I was born in Australia on the 15th of May 1999. In my life I have visited some countries which are Lebanon and Dubai. Also I have visited many interstate capital cities such as Brisbane and Canberra and places such as Nelson Bay, Forster, Batemens Bay, Jindabyne and Jenolan caves. As I have an Australian,Lebanese origin I have a heritage from both countries. To start with, the things that I learnt from my lebanese heritage is that the people are helpful, faithful, never give up | and have a strong will to live. Another thing I learnt from my Australian heritage is great honesty and respect for the law. My family consists of 4 members; my father Elias, my mother Hanane, my only sister Bernadette and myself. In my life I talk to many people such as my friends, family and grandparents either for advice or for fun. I believe in God Jesus Christ and I got this belief from my family (parents). Also the things I value the most are my parents because they take care of me, help me, love me and condition me. My interests are drawing, music, swimming, fishing and dancing which I enjoy doing in my spare time.
A positive challenge I have had during high school is meeting new friends. A way I coped with this challenge is walking up to students I didn't know before, starting a conversation and knowing things about each other. Also trying to blend in with the new environment. Another positive challenge is having more responsibility in high school and being independent. The way I coped with this is by knowing that with independence comes responsibility and setting goals for myself to achieve. | The negative challenges I have experienced is worrying about later years where I can't manage to finish tasks on time. The way to cope with this is to just think of the year I'm in now and take everything one step at a time and trusting my future abilities. The second negative challenge is getting less involved socially because of the busy schedule. Coping with this is possible, just trying to stay with friends, learn how to be more relaxed and trying to do other activities where I can socialise outside the school environment.
The five coping strategies I would tell a year 6 student coming to high school are: Don't leave things to the last minute and trying to stay up to date with your work. Don't be afraid to ask for the help you need in any situation. Get yourself involved during class and trying to be more active. To realise that now your in high school and you are expected to be more independent and responsible. Trying to maximize the use of your precious time and instead improving your skills and ability.
Short term goals Gain more confidence in dealing with high school pressures. Try to build up on my previous learning skills and abilities. | intermediate goals Achieve higher results in this years NAPLAN. | long term goals Getting myself ready to face bigger challenges in year 8. Having the ambition to become one of the top students in my class. | My goals!!
One change I will face in the next five years is getting much more homework and the years in high school getting much harder. It will be hard for me to cope with the change from being in primary where you get little homework and high school where you get truckloads for every subject you learn. Getting a lot of homework in one go every year can turn into a challenge. For example, not finishing on time could be challenging to try and force yourself to do more in one night which can cause stress. Over the years the homework will increase and the possibility of a challenge will be much higher in the years to come. This will be something hard to get the hang of but I'm sure this would give me a great deal of determination to do more work and learn. Also it would give me great knowledge.Trying to cope with this big change will be a big challenge.
