FC: Mary Griep's Council Memories
1: Mary, I have mixed emotions about your retirement. On one hand, we are going to miss the openness, candor, and value you bring to the Councils and to the Council Members. On the other hand, we are delighted that you and Larry will have the opportunity to enjoy a wonderful retirement in good health. Over the years you have been one of the most open and sharing Council Members we have had as a Member in the Councils. You have exemplified the definition of a Council Member that truly gives as much if not more than she takes from the membership. Cealy and I wish you and Larry many happy years together in pleasant places. Bob Parent The Conference Board

6: Mary, Mary and I joined the Council at roughly the same time. Since then, I have gained a colleague, friend and mentor. As robust as the Six Sigma and Culture of Quality is at 3M, Mary is always open to learning, listening to others to improve this process. Continuous Improvement and never resting, are not aspirations at 3M, they are business strategies. Congratulations Mary on the many successes you have led at 3M and for your continued contribution to the Conference Board. I value our friendship and wish you only the very best as you start the next chapter of your life. -Kirby Drysen Cisco Systems Inc.

Not only have I learned a ton from you, but your demeanor and passion for helping others has left an everlasting impression on me. Thanks for your support, help and advice through these years. Will miss you in the council meetings but am always a call/email away if you ever need anything. Sanjeev Sharma CareFusion
8: Hello Mary, As they like to say in Washington DC, it is with deep regret that 3M and our Six Sigma Council will no longer have the benefit of your presence, wisdom and counsel. Unlike in Washington DC, the statement is true in your case. Our Council will miss your pragmatic experience and intimate knowledge of applying rigorous concepts in a culture of innovation as we attempt to continue our journey toward further engaging Leadership in change initiatives. Without your personal involvement, our Council will not benefit from your rich and provocative comments offered in past council sessions. The accumulated knowledge and practical experience gained during your work at 3M will be missed the most by those who were the beneficiaries of your work. Keep in touch and allow each of us to tap into your knowledge even if we have to pay for it by the hour. Mary, you are a great role model for contagious energy and learning. I enjoyed our brief times together and wish you all the best. Mary, You will be missed!! All the best to you. Regards, Bob Stasey / Analog Devices
9: Mary, You a person who is easy to know, quick with a smile and smart as a whip! What a privilege to meet you. I wish you the very best. Dayde McLaughlin The Boeing Company
10: Mary, Mary has been the leader of one of the nation's most effective Lean Six Sigma programs and in that she has made a piece of history. I will remember her more for kicking my ass on the pre Council golf outings! Regards, Bo Bo McBee HP
11: Mary, Congratulations on your retirement !! Now you will have plenty of time to work on your golf game. You have been one of the regulars in our Conference Board Six Sigma Council Golfing Sub-Team and we will miss you !!! Enjoy your new found freedom and if we ever decide to come to Minneapolis for a meeting, you will be an automatic invite. Your golfing buddy, Don Don Linsenmann DuPont
12: Mary, Congratulations Mary I am happy for you and sad for the Council’s loss. In the short period I have been with the Council I have enjoyed getting to know you and appreciated the experience and knowledge you gave us. Thank you and best wishes to you in your new “career”. 13: Mary, It has been a pleasure knowing you at the Quality Council and working with you on many "projects" so that we all learn from the latest trends and directions. I have enjoyed your straight forward approach to problem solving and your knowledge about so many Quality best practices. You have also been willing to share without hesitation when any of us have had a question or an "itch". You are a true professional. I hope you have the best retirement and do whatever strikes your fancy. You have earned it after 38 years of loyal service to 3M. My congratulations and best wishes for the future. Regards Mike Jesrani IBM
14: Mary, I am sorry to see you leaving our council. We shall be missing the warmth, the customer care and philosophy of 3M—that in many ways could be a benchmark of innovation thru customer participation . But I am also happy that you will be enjoying the well deserved golden years of retirement and improving your handicap far ahead of those of us still struggling to get to fairways because customers come first!!! Regards and best wishes, Hiten Ghosh Hughes Network System

Kristine Dale Corning
16: Mary, Although we have only worked together a short while on the Conference Board, I have really come to appreciate the wisdom that you have brought to the 3M Lean Six Sigma efforts and have been quite impressed by your willingness to share your successes and lessons learned with the rest of us. Your friendly and welcoming manner has made working with the Board that much more enjoyable. I’ll certainly miss you at the meetings and at the “scratch / itch” forums! On behalf of past Xerox representatives (Nancy Rees and Doug Burgess), as well as myself, we wish you all the best in your future pursuits Jeff Koff Xerox Corporation
