FC: Margery Butler Parker 90th Birthday Memory Albums August 12, 2005 | August 12, 1915-April 28, 2007

1: Credit for the idea of mom's memory books goes to Nancy Parker Friedman who first suggested them in spring, 2005. Nancy, Anne, Jane & I split up mom's contacts & asked each one for letters to celebrate her 90th birthday on August 12, 2005. One album grew to 9 albums quickly. Volumes were all scrapbooked by hand for 2+ months. I had to wheel them in a rolling cooler to deliver them. Mom was thrilled to see them & began reading them right away. I also created an outline for her video memories which we filmed in short segments, totaling 3 hours. A transcript is included in this book. Each album in this book has a different background color for easy understanding. For layout reasons, I had to add filler at times. I found extra old phos never included in books before; they appear at the end of this book. Nine volumes are now condensed into one volume with this book. I also added a posthumous section on both mom and dad's deaths. May they RIP forever. --Linda Parker Woodward August 4, 2014

196: Mom helped prepare this contact list. By 2014, most of her old friends on this list had died. To read their handwriting & know they were celebrating her 90th brings back many memories of what wonderful people they were & how much mom loved their friendship.

197: Mom made friends by "making rounds" of her friends in the neighborhood & later at Parkway Place. Despite her severe osteoporosis & "widow's hump," she.kept her walker ready for daily walks. She practically had complete life bios & clinical histories on anyone she met by the time they were done talking.

253: Ella Davis, Primary Caregiver for Dad for Nearly 7 Years

254: In Memoriam: Margery Butler Parker | Mom & dad had visited various funeral homes in Houston & selected Geo. H. Lewis because mom said Houston society people used them. She had succumbed to pneumonia in the Memorial City Medical Center after a hip fracture & replacement at age 92. She died ~10:20AM on April 28, 2007 on Stacey Heit's 40th birthday. Both Mom & dad had elected cremation. Geo. H. Lewis held the viewing & Parkway Place hosted her Memorial Service-- it was standing room only as wheelchairs & walkers lined up outside the Chapel. Reverend Arnie Peterson delivered the Eulogy. Anne Rose is Executor of their estate; David Rose is Co-Executor.

257: I always remember the old house in Temple, TX & living next to a cemetery. In researching, I contacted a cemetery manager for one that most resembled the one I remembered. Coincidentally, she is Patty Benoit, also staff writer for the Temple Daily Telegram. Realtor Nancy Daniel drove to the house & took pictures for me. This was a great find mom would have loved.

258: Mom's Oak Park Elementary School Interview: Published Posthumously

260: Dad lived 7 more years after mom died; he died on May 21, 2014. He stayed at Parkway Place after mom died with 24/7 care of Aides; his main caretaker was Ella Davis. When his health required more expert & skilled nursing, he was moved to a 5-star luxury facility at The Forum, 777 N. Post Oak Road, Houston, TX 77024. Ella Davis continued as his Aide; his room was outside the Nursing Station. He was able to go to the Activity Room in a wheelchair & join in the various programs. He continued on his stomach feeding tube, but was able to eat pureed foods also--including Jane's famous pureed pecan pie! He also outlived his diabetes after weight loss. He died May 21 of respiratory & cardiac complications in the ICU. The family gathered in Houston on June 28 to celebrate his life in a simple gathering at Carrabba's. & dessert at Anne's featuring 5 home-made pies by Jane. Anne & Jane arranged it all; a minister gave a eulogy. Jane's eulogy was the best of all, but Stacey Heit's & Lauren Naylor Yost's were a close 2nd as they shared memories of their grandfather. The touch of African Violets at the dinner table as guest take-homes was very moving; dad loved his violets so. Stacey & Larry helped create a moving slide show with music. We didn't have a private service at Geo. H. Lewis for friends as they are all deceased--at 97.5, dad had outlived them all. He liked things kept simple & informal; our family gathering was perfect in all respects.

269: Life at Parkway Place & dad's beloved 1997 silver Cadillac with maroon leather upholstery which he bought to bring mom home from rehab so they could travel to the Southwest & revisit old Navajo stomping grounds & more. The family gifted it to Ella Davis. Their grandfather clock was gifted to Parkway Place. Left: Mom & Phyllis Peet, Newfoundland, 1922. | Both mom & dad planned carefully for retirement & their children by setting up Trusts for their estate. This prudent planning has benefited all & nurtured them in very old age. It began with signatures for the future that will live long after they are gone & remind us all how much they loved their family & wanted only the best for all. We are all stewards of their estate now.
