Table Of Contents My Mother's...1-2 Kitchen Self Respect...3-4 Language Arts...5-6 Where I'm From...7-8

My Mother's Kitchen My dearest mother's kitchen is the place to be The sweetest smells, the warmest oven, and the sweets that settle me The chopped green vegetable And the dead herbs so plentiful Surely will make for a tummy pleasing treat Oh how I love when my sister travels in To set the warm cookie dough right here on the tin And while she/s sitting and indulging And while her belly is quickly bulging There isn't nearly a happier place to be

Now it's my dad who ventures on in He's happy and smiling As the food starts piling He will scrape it all up in his tummy-like bin There is pity to be felt For those who haven't dealt With the kind of wonders my mother creates One last word to say As a bit of advice, not in the way Don't eat too many of the mystical snacks For nobody's belly fits it all anyway

Self Respect There isn't a single person in this world Who can tell me that I am not enough Tell me that I can't fly high Tell me I'm not rough, not tough Who is to judge the real me? They don't enough know themselves Face against the wall, full trash can While my work is filling up the shelves They stand there and complain That I'm just not cool enough Hot enough Not quick enough Smart enough Built enough

They can't see their own reflection in the mirror They don't have their own minds clearer Than what their inhumane and unsustained Think boxes will uncontain So listen once again I'm my own person Don't think I will pretend I am not here to please I'm here to seize And I will succeed That is the truth Opinions and mockeries won't fog the sea Because I am my own me

Language Arts Learning through words Art in a different form Neatly explaining Grammatical analysis Uncovering the plot Analyze the theme Graciously rewording thoughts onto paper Explicating poems

Anxiously seeking out meaning Reciting your soul Telling your own stories Solving the mystery of language

Where I'm From I am from vast fields of sprouting stalks, from corn and from wheat. I am from the waters that warm and cool, the skies that cloud and cry and brighten and heat, and the ground that is fertile and smooth and hard and empty. I am from the oaks, the strawberry bushes. I am from baseball, from Kelly and Debbie and Tristen and Derek. I am from the nights of talking and enjoying moves and loud yelling over who won the game. From “don't eat all those cookies” and “get your feet off of the table.”

I am from unknowing and infinite religion choices. From choices of what to practice and where to practice it. I'm from America and Germany, from noodles and mashed potatoes. From the endless stories my dad spits out in his raconteur ways, the discounts my mom somehow gets from all those stores, and the amazing clothes my sister finds for me. I am from the chest full of pictures, memories, and videos. The captured soul of all the moments spent with my family and friends.
