10: Twas the night before Christmas, there was a mess all through the house A creature was stirring, and it wasn't a mouse The stockings used to be hung by the chimney with care Yes, it's true, St. Nicholas was already there! This child was now nestled all snug in his bed, While visions of cheese puffs danced in his head. And mamma in her sweat pants, and I in my winter cap, Thought we were settling down for a nice winters nap. When in the room next door there arose such a clatter, I sprang from our bed to see what was the matter. When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, But a miniature man, with a big lack of fear. With a big snicker and grin, so lively and quick, I knew in a moment that it was a little St. Nick! More rapid than eagles his first words they came, And he screeched, and he shouted and called them by name: First, Da Da! Then, Night Night, Na Na, and Pa Pa! Then, Ball! And Bye Bye, Elmo, and Ma Ma! Mommy dressed him in cute outfits, from his pants to his shirt, But without any doubt, he was covered in drool and dirt. A bundle of fuzzy bunnies he had flung to his back, But he always managed to hold on to his snack. His blue eyes –how they twinkled! His smile so merry! His cheeks were so chubby! It was like he was eating a cherry! His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow, And his soft skin...well...still white as the snow! He had the sweetest little face and the fattest round belly, That shook when he laughed ‘cause it was probably fully of jelly! With a wink of his eye and a twist to his head, Just let me know he was doing something to dread. He spoke so many words but continued with his “work” All while maintaining that mischievous smirk. His little hands flew while he talked as half-Italian’s do, We translated as the words began to spew. I heard him loud and clear as he ran out of sight, Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!
