FC: Josh Brunner 3-28-12 5/6 | My Poetry Portfolio

 Table of Contents Where I'm From.......2-3 Self Respect...........4-5 My Mother's Kitchen..6-7 Language Arts.........8-9

WHERE I'M FROM | I am from computers, from iTouches and cell phones. I am from the shade of the trees around the creek. I am from the steel magnolia and the azalea bush. I am from yearly vacations and suntans, from Joan and Allen. I am from the get-it-dones and scatter-brains. From Do the dishwasher and Clean the cat boxes.

I am from Let there Be Peace on Earth and mediation every Sunday at church. I'm from Atlanta fried okra and spaghettis. From my parent’s trip to Hawaii, the time my father broke his ankle playing softball. I am from the photo albums in our computer room Full of pictures of my parents’ lives. I am from these memories That make my parents who they are and make me who I am.

Sometimes I say hello sometimes I don’t. Sometimes I'll shake your hand sometimes I won’t. Depend on what’s on my mind I might even act very kind It really just depends on how I feel I’m not your average guy And I ain’t your social butterfly But I learned it doesn’t matter what people think of me. Because I am a mathlete. I’m not your average guy My worth is not determined by whether I look you in the eye No matter how I greet you, I will always be Josh, the math guy. | Self Respect

My Mother's Kitchen | My mother’s kitchen is always busy Full of food to prepare and dishes to clean She spends hours every night Making casseroles and cooking green beans Fried okra sizzles on the stove Lasanga cooks in the oven A salad sits on the counter, Cookies bake in the toaster oven

An island sits in the middle, Granite counters all around The fridge is on the left, the sink on the right, And in the back the microwave fan blows with its noisy sound Unattended, the Chirstmas cactus has died “Its time for dinner,” Mom calls It’s a feast, and the family is famished Everybody gathers and begins to eat After the meal, when everyone’s through And everyone has left Mom’s work has just begun For now the kitchen must be cleaned

Language Arts | Language arts is reading stories From books and poems Analyzing the point they make And how they communicate Language arts is writing essays Writing sentences to form papers Using literary devices And using correct grammar Language arts is creativity
