FC: Richard Brian Bradshaw
A sampling of pictures for Richard and Brittany as they start their adventure of parenting! It is going to be so fun!
Baby #3 was an answer to our many prayers. My neighbor threw me a surprise shower and invited the whole ward. I had once said I wished I could afford disposable diapers and so everyone gave me a box of diapers. It was just the best! The picture below is taken 6 November 1981 at a GE banquet. You only got invited if you submitted a patent (or were married to someone who did). I had contractions on and off the whole evening, but nothing happened for real.
Richard was due on 24 November. Thanksgiving was on the 26 of November that year. Dinner was in the freezer in case he arrived, but he did not. We had a quiet Thanksgiving. Friday the day after Thanksgiving we took the 2 ton of newspapers John and MaryAnne had collected to earn money for the Chicago temple to the recycle place where they each received $10. Saturday we spend the day shopping. Saturday night I felt different and by Sunday morning I knew why. Ken was already at church, so I showered and got the kids ready to go. I taught my Sunday school class and timed contractions during sacrament meeting. Ken was the YM president and all the boys had put their guesses down as to when the baby would come. AFter church they were talking to me about it and I thought maybe somebody should pick today. They thought that was silly since I was standing right there. But it turns out I was right. After lunch, about 3 pm,we took the children to Hornberger's and Richard was born at 6:26 pm. Ken brought John and MaryAnne up on Monday morning to meet their brother and they wanted to take home right then! I guess it was love at first sight.
Richard Brian Bradshaw 29 November 1981 6:26 p.m. 8 lbs 9 1/2 oz. 21 inches | Richard means "powerful leader" and was #27 in popularity that year. We chose it because we felt he needed a name that would look good on the door of a professional, like a lawyer or a doctor. Brian had the same inspiration. Richard is also a family name--his grandfather and 4th great grandfather to point out a few.
John and MaryAnne are excited to welcome baby Richard!
Baby Richard was definitely the best thing under the tree that Christmas. The picture to the left was our Christmas card that year.
