S: SUMMER 2011
BC: Made with Love! by Harriet Herns
The Best Summer! | Norway to Texas | Audrey and her Daddy got on a big airplane. They had a very long flight clear around the globe! They landed at the big airport in Houston, Texas. Waiting for them there were Aunt Carol and Uncle Jim. They drove on a busy highway to Lake Jackson where they arrived at Uncle Jim and Aunt Carol's lovely home. There they were greeted enthusiastically by Cousin Tim, 13 cats and 2 dogs. Audrey loved playing games with Cousin Tim and petting all the cats and dogs. Her favorite was the spotted puppy, Pippen, who slept with her.
Best Buddies | Audrey met her little Cousin Hannah who was 5 and 1/2 years old. The two girls spent all their time together and became best buddies. Aunt Karissa took them shopping and to all kinds of neat places like pizza playgrounds and the movies. They went to swim meets where Hannah swam in races. They went to Zumba exercise classes and wore fancy outfits.
 Audrey Finds Grandma!
Sleepovers and Playtimes | The house where Uncle Jon and Aunt Karissa live has a huge backyard with a trampoline, swings, bicycles and 4-wheelers. There were LOTS of fun playtimes there! Hannah has a neat room with lots of toys including a big Barbie doll house. There were many sleepovers and playtimes at Hannah's house.
 Happy Birthday Cousin Kelly!
IN THE SUN | Kelly's 27th Birthday Party | One evening the family all went to Cousin Kelly's birthday party at a Mexican restaurant. They had a big table with lots of people (13). There were lots of flowers and lots of balloons. Audrey had fun riding piggy-back on Kelly's husband, Cousin Bobby's shoulders and rubbing his head. Audrey also got to go along with Hannah to two birthday parties for friends. There were many activities and lots of fun!
The main foods of Texans are Texas barbecue, Mexican food, and pizzas. Cousin Tim prepared a nice barbecued brisket dinner on the 4th of July holiday. One night, the family all went to a Japanese restaurant where the chef prepared the food right in the middle of their big table. Huge flames and knife tricks were kind of scary. Bits of food were thrown by the chef on his spatula for the diners to catch in their mouths! AND... of course there were lots of hot dogs and ice cream to be eaten at Grandma's house. | Texas Food
 Surfside Beach 2010
 Horseback Riding
Texas Horses | One evening, Aunt Karissa took Hannah, Audrey and her Daddy to ride horseback on the beach. They wore their cowboy hats and cowboy boots. That was fun! On another day they visited stables where horses lived. They petted the horses in their stalls and few them apples. A small pony raised up to greet them but they could not feed him because his owner told them he would bite. A nice teen-aged girl let them ride her horse around the big arena. Then they watched her ride, training her horse to participate in the barrel-racing event at rodeos.
hanging out seaside! | At the beach in Freeport, the girls waded out and tried riding the waves back in. They picked up seashells and tiny sandcrabs digging their way into the wet sand. One evening they had dinner at the Houston Aquarium where they saw all kinds of fish and other sea creatures in a huge glass tank. A white tiger kept trying to catch the fish. They also went to a movie about dolphins and whales on a giant screen. The sea creatures seemed to come right into their faces. That was cool! | Sea Life - Gulf of Mexico
One day, the family all went to a wildlife park. They rode a little train car all over the park to view the animals which roamed free. | There were lots of animals from all over the world - all types of deer, camels, ostriches, giraffes, water buffalo, zebras, swans as well as ponies and goats. | It was fun feeding the animals! | Exotic Animals
Another day they all went to a big enclosed rain forest where there were hundreds of butterflies of all sizes and colors.
Alligators & Stars | One evening, Uncle Jon and Aunt Karissa took the girls bicycling at a state park late in the day. There were big alligators roaming free close to the pathway. Yikes! It was kind of scary. After dark, they all looked through big telescopes at the moon. | Another day, Uncle Jim took them to the NASA Space Center where they saw rockets and equipment used by the astronauts when they went up into space.
See the alligator in the water?
On the first weekend after Audrey and her daddy arrived in Texas they went to the Beach Vault that Uncle Marc organized. Lots of people vaulted, including boys and girls, men and women. Uncle Marc has a pole vaulting pit in his backyard where he teaches boys and girls to vault.
Aunt Melinda and Uncle Marc treat patients with massage and acupuncture needles. They help people feel better.
The best thing about Grandma's house is the swimming pool where the girls spent time almost every day. It was fun using the diving board and rubber floats and boats. In Grandma's house there is a pool table, a piano that plays all by itself when you pedal it, a chicken-dance chicken, and a singing frog. Audrey and Hannah spent several nights sleeping with Grandma in her big bed. Grandma read them books and told them stories. The girls loved to wake up Cousin Brewster to cook breakfast. Best of all were the HUGE forts Brewster helped them build out of couch cushions and blankets. | Grandma's House
Go Texas! | THUS IT WAS THAT AUDREY FOUND HER GRANDMA AND LOTS OF TEXAS AUNTS, UNCLES AND COUSINS IN THE SUMMER OF 2010.
We are Family | Aunt Carol & Uncle Jim | Aunt Carol & Uncle Jim's House | Cousin Tim
Uncle Jon & Aunt Karissa | Cousin Hannah | Cousin Heather | Cousin Cayla | Heather & Cayla
