Summer Days - Page Text Content

S: August - December 2009

FC: August - December 2009 | Jay, Randi, Natalie and Jenna

We returned to the Cape in August for more fun in the sun with family.

But before we can get to the beach, we need to revisit Dorney Park. Jenna's tall enough for Steel Force this year, and after a LOT of hand wringing and worrying, she went for it. Total success - she was hooked instantly!

 Tall enough!

 Cousins on the Beach

Joyful Abandon (my favorite summer pic of Jenna)

No Cape trip is considered complete without a stop at Arnold's for onion strings, burgers, clam strips....

food, mini golf, bike trail, coloring sheets

FreedomBoat Club has added another dimension to our Cape Cod fun. | Everyone had fun waterskiing, tubing, and exploring the coastline.

 Brew Run 2009

Hittin' the Road | This year we all took a stab at completing the Brew Run. Everyone put in a respectable time for the first time out!

Cape Cod Potato Chip Factory | We don't get there every year, but on a cloudy day the chip factory is a great outing. We can watch them make the chips, taste a sample, and pick out a favorite flavor in the factory store.

Everyday is fun with the cousins. Doesn't matter what's on the agenda!

Cowboys Stadium | Lucky us...Grandpa and Mitsubishi now have a suite at the new Cowboys stadium, and although we don't realize it yet, we will have many opportunities to take advantage of this treat! This was our first visit - a preseason game in the new box.

Natalie is off to 5th grade and Jenna is starting 3rd. It's a new middle school adventure for Natalie, and she is ready! | Back to School

Hanging out at Einstein's Bagels whenever we get the chance.

Rachel and Natalie | 5th grade class trip to Balcones Springs

 3rd grade Class of 2019 | Jenna

GOAL! | The Green Monsters had another great season! | The girls got a chance to model some socks in a mini photo shoot.

The 3rd grade Daisies are a great little team. Everyone contributed to an undefeated season.

 Go Daisies!

 Birthday at the State Fair!

Cat and Taylor joined us at the Fair for Natalie's 11th birthday.

"Good times are even better when they are shared" | Austin and Lake Travis | Making s'mores at the resort fire pit was really fun!

MomMom and PopPop came down to Texas for a long October weekend, and we all trekked to Austin to stay by the lake and enjoy the outdoors. We enjoyed our time at the resort, did a little boating, and spent a day touring the capital city. | We practically had the place to ourselves!

We reserved an FBC boat on Lake Travis and spent some time exploring the shoreline. The lake was so low! We definitely need some rain in Texas!

We toured the capitol building and hit some of the shops. It was a beautiful, warm October day!

Can't let the grandparents leave town without a bit of Texas BBQ!

more October fun... | Jenna Margot Meghna | This was the month for Fun Day, Dad's Breakfast, a visit from Grandpa, a violin recital...Oh, and Halloween, of course!

"Friends are Flowers that Never Fade" | Katherine Cat Natalie Teal

Trick or Treat! | We met up with the Colson's and Landry's for Trick or Treating in the neighborhood.

Scott, Sam, Connor and Blake came out for a super fun weekend in Dallas! | We covered all the usual Dallas tourist locations, including Dealey Plaza where we got an earful from a conspiracy theorist! Some of our best times were right here at home. Connor and Blake are so sweet to the girls, and we grownups could talk for a year straight without stopping to catch our breath.

We packed in some sight-seeing, a Dallas Stars hockey game, visits to our favorite restaurants, and finally, the big game at Cowboys stadium on Thanksgiving Day! | Connor was determined to go to a CiCi's Pizza while in Dallas. Jenna shows him the ropes.

 our favorite yogurt shop

 sharing everyday things with

 day

Tickets to see the Raiders beat the Cowboys. Sideline passes too. Thanks, Grandpa.

November Happenings Natalie has begun her braces experience. It should take about two years to straighten everything out, and it's a little tough at the beginning. She's a good sport though and is doing a good job taking care of her teeth. And, as if that weren't enough, she has taken the plunge and gotten her ears pierced! | Jenna's having another fun season with the Daisy Dunkers. She and Mommy are giving the mother-daughter book club a try. Jenna's not so sure about this one. | Snow!

We had an opportunity to meet with old friends over the Thanksgiving weekend. The Rose Family was in Dallas and came for the afternoon. we were joined by Leslie Misenhimer and her sons. Good to see each other after such a long time.

Tons of holiday events and activities this year!! We are decorating right after Thanksgiving so we can host the Trinity Consultants holiday party.

There are a multitude of holiday concerts - violin, church choir and school orchestra.

It's a pretty big production each year, and this year seemed a bit "over the top", but it's such fun to deliver delicious homemade treats to teachers and friends. Jenna's Ginger Crinkles and Natalie's Chocolate Crackle Cookies are always a success! | Cookie Factory

Shop 'til you drop | The girls took on their own Christmas shopping and made some very nice selections for Mom and Dad. Mom snapped a few shots during our bagel break at Einsteins.

Seems simple enough - posing for the perfect shot for this year's holiday card. But with Christmas excitement building, things quickly degenerated into a giggling mess! | Photo Shoot

I honored Natalie's request to not include some of the photos I took that evening, but there was an attempt at a more authentic modeling photo shoot by the tree. We got a few somewhat "sophisticated" poses until Sister decided to disrupt the proceedings. | Holiday Spirit... to the Max!

Our Christmas traditions seem to get more "set in stone" as the girls get older. They are determined that certain things MUST happen each year. One of the most important is the Christmas Eve drive to see the lights, complete with pajamas. blankets and hot chocolate. | It's Christmas Eve!

Lots of presents for everyone, even Kitty. Oh, poor Kitty! He doesn't realize it yet, but his life is about to change radically. "Blue" is coming to live with us as soon as we get home from our ski trip to Beaver Creek. | Time for Presents

 Beaver Creek

We had such a good time with the Knouse family in Beaver Creek. We spent the holiday week skiing, snow shoeing and enjoying everything the village has to offer. The girls loved being tour guides for the cousins.

Jenna sketched out a plan for the skiers. It was COLD, but the conditions were great. We've ruined the Knouses for east coast skiing.

 Spectacular Snowshoeing

z | Fun in the Village | Those hot cookies at the bottom of the mountain are AWESOME after a cold day on the slopes.

We didn't miss anything... Beano's Cabin, the General Store, warming up at Spruce Saddle, Blue Moose pizza, stolen hot chocolate from the Hyatt - don't ask!..

After returning from our ski trip, we went straight up to Running B Aussies in Denison to pick up "Blue", the newest member of our family. Stay tuned.
