2: Fiji History Fiji was settled more than three thousand years ago by what is now know as the "Lapita people.
3: Historians believe that Fiji had a least two rapid change periods in prehistoric times, with the arrival of immigrants from the west. It is also believed that sometime in the 12th century, the islands suffered a massive volcanic eruption which destroyed their pottery but produced much of the Fiji land now in existence. | Fiji Island History
4: Geography | GEOGRAPHY The more than 300 Pacific islands of Fiji are located between Australia and New Zealand. The islands cover more than 1.3 million square km. - out of which only 1.5 is land and only two thirds of the islands are currently uninhibited. The land is primarily of volcanic origin.
