Self Esteem is something every one has. weather one person doesn't have enough, or they have more than everyone in the room. I believe the media has something to do with how most people feel about themselves. The media portrays everyone in the camera to be extremely fit, with the perfect body. There are billions of people in this world who do not have the same type of body. The average weight of a woman is a lot higher than a model's. We all should have our own meaning of the word "beauty" we shouldn't let the media decide for us.

One reason why i believe the media contributes to a negative body image is because of the numerous eating disorders women decide to do each day. I believe they choose to do them because each and every day they have to look at commercials, magazines, and other types of advertisements with all the "done-up"and Photoshopped pictures in them. This doesn't help the self esteem | 1 out of every 4 college age women use unhealthy methods of weight control. Everyone is affected by the media. Not just young teenage girls. Eating disorders have increased 400% since the 1970's.(Covert) | It contributes to Eating Disorders. | Reason 1: | National eating disorder symbol

It Lowers the Self Esteem of Men and Women | Reason 2: | Men also obses about how they look also. The new look is to have a "bulked up body". | The change of the GI Joe doll over the last 40 years is an example of how society has started to look at body images of men. | For men, the ideal body image consists of a muscular man. (Furnham, Badmin, & Sneade)

Opposing | -Theres been test to show there is a genetic connection to eating disorders. | -Researchers are finding that the level of Serotin found in the human body play a key role in choosing to use eating disorders | -Early childhood development fosters the growth of self esteem over time. The person closest to the child has the most influence on them.

The media will always have a influence on a majority of people and their body images. The bulked up and ultra-thin images of men and women in the media will always be there. As long as this is going on we will continue to see people with eating disorders. And this will continue to influence everyone. We should try to band together and stop the big impact of the media.
