To our dearest boys, Why does Mommy always take so many pictures? Because with every click, a moment in our lives together is saved to carry on and remember forever. May this book stand to remind you, always, that every picture is a time when your parents have deeply loved you. Through every second of every day of every year, you are cherished. Always. And forever. "Without my children, tomorrow wouldn't be worth the wait and yesterday not worth remembering" | With love, Mommy & Daddy

snow day | Oh, Charlie, how desperately you wanted it to snow!! Before moving to Virginia, we heard from your Auntie Carol how much snow the DC area always got each winter. So Mommy bought you snow pants, snow boots, a jacket and hat. For Christmas, you got a sled and a snow tube. And then... we waited and waited and waited! All you wanted was enough snow to build a proper snowman... and of course, it was the first mild winter in years with most days being in the 50s! We did have an ice storm in January that gave you just enough snow to sled on the hill beside our house... You were very happy with it!!

 january 2012

giard girls weekend | Most of Mommy's aunts were visiting in DC while Kate was in town from Alaska on business, so it became a wonderful "girls" weekend at home with all the family having dinner at our house on Friday night. Charlie and Henry were smothered in tons of auntie attention and loved it! Saturday night was spent in the city having a big dinner at Lauriol Plaza and a visit to a psychic! The weekend ended with a yummy Sunday morning brunch at Kramer's Bookstore.

So many cool things happen in our city. Since the space shuttle program had been shut down, all of the remaining shuttles were being delivered to various museums around the country for display. We were thrilled that Space Shuttle Discovery would be flying on the back of NASA's 747 to land at Dulles airport for display at the Air & Space Museum!! We planned a special morning of skipping school and tailgating in the parking lot to watch the flyover of the shuttle and it's landing but so did the entire city!!! It was so crowded that we got lost from our friends and had to find a new place to watch. We parked on the top floor of a parking lot at the airport and had an awesome view! | Shuttle Discovery Arrives at Dulles

He even got the GAME BALL a couple of times for being the outstanding player of the game! | very first game ball!

 Control Tower & Airplane Tour | B | W | I | with Papa & Captain Chip at

Charlie received an extra special treat for his birthday - to tour the Baltimore airport control tower and sit in the cockpit of a real 737! Aunt Carol's neighbor, Captain Chip, kindly offered to take him around because he knew Charlie loved planes so much! He decided he wanted Papa to go too since Daddy was in away on business. While sitting in the cockpit, the pilot told Charlie he could press "any button" but he mostly just asked what everything did and how it all worked! It was a very special and exciting day! | April 2012

 HAPPY 8th BIRTHDAY, CHARLIE!

For Charlie's 8th birthday party, he wanted an airplane theme so we decorated with airplanes, ate airplane meals and took all his friends to the Dulles Air & Space Museum to see the new Space Shuttle Discovery! | April 2012

 Lake Norman | boating day

As always, we spent a few weeks of the summer down in Charlotte with Papa & Blah. Unky Bunky, Auntie Sarsie & Olly joined us there, too! We decided it would be a lot of fun to take out a pontoon boat on the lake for a day! Henry loved the boat and the water, which was a total surprise to all of us! Charlie didn't really want to get in the water because he was worried there were snakes, so he helped Papa captain the boat instead! | June 2012

We loved watching the elephants as they cooled themselves off by splashing in the water!

We fed the farm animals, said hello to the giraffes and the zebras and we even checked out the reptiles and the fish! we loved the prairie dogs but were most surprised by the gorilla that hit the glass while we were watching him and it scared us all!

We watched the South Riding fireworks with the Parnells and Allens on the evening of the 3rd and played with sparklers!!! Then, it was extra special to share our 4th of July BBQ with the Bordas family who were visiting from Texas! Since the summer Olympic Games were only a few weeks away, the Dads decided to make a bunch of Kids Olympic games to play together! Everyone's favorite game was covering heads with shaving cream and having to catch tossed cheetos in the foam! And then Mr. Brad and Mr. Matt couldn't resist a shaving cream fight! | July 4th

Mommy loves to take pictures of what our life together on a normal day really looks like with all of the silliness and all of the energy that two little boys bring to our lives! It is truly a beautiful life we are all sharing, even in the everyday routine.

 c i t y | NEW YORK

When Manny mentioned she would be traveling up to visit us in August on her way to a family reunion in upstate New York, we were very excited. But when she mentioned she'd be stopping in NYC after seeing us, we said "We'll join you!!!" We took the train, which everyone loved, and raced the Millers into the city! We had a blast visiting the Statue of Liberty, riding the subway and hanging out in Times Square! The boys loved the giant M&M's store, Toys R Us and the pedi-cab ride down 5th Avenue the most!! It was a wonderful, quick trip!

Summer science experiment | August 2012

Your scribbles have begun to take shape. You can write your name, and I can't get enough of your big eared, bow headed, body-less stick figures. | In the summer, life slows down and we have the free time to try all the things we have been wanting to try. Charlie had been wanting to try the experiment of dropping Mentos into a 2L bottle of Diet Coke so we gathered all the supples and took to the lab. I mean, front yard. Charlie figured out how to get the most candy into the bottle for the biggest explosion! It was so much messy fun!

 big boy | bed | Henry's | August 2012

Mommy painted her old Jenny Lind bed a bright blue to hand down to Henry to use as his new big boy bed! It was no trouble at all for Henry to start sleeping in it! Such a big boy!

 f u n w i t h | Bowling

The first morning with our very own set, Henry set up the pins and knocked them down for hours! Mommy took out the camera and couldn't stop taking pictures of all the fun! | august 2012

OUT | back to preschool at Pender Hill School | September 2012 | All of a sudden, it was time for Henry to start his second year of Mother's Day Out at Pender Hill School in the Under 3's class! Henry, you were a little nervous on your first day but you did great once you saw all of your friends from the year before in your classroom! Your teachers were Miss Jeanne and Miss Pardo. Every morning there were puzzles and playdough on the tables and then you got to play outside on the playground or down in the basement if it was too cold or raining!

FALL BALL | THE EXPRESS | LITTLE LEAGUE

Fall meant another season of baseball for Charlie and Assistant Coach Daddy!! Charlie's skills improved and we all had a lot of fun!! Even Henry, who can't wait to be able to play on a team someday!

 to | Harper's Ferry, WV

With gorgeous fall weather, we spent an afternoon in Harper's Ferry putting our toes in the river and checking out the train tracks! And a perfect distance away from home to stop in Leesburg for a pizza dinner!

firsts | charlie's first bike ride without training wheels | Papa & Blah came to visit and Papa thought it was just about time that Charlie ride his bike without training wheels. Charlie was very nervous that he would fall but he got right on the bike and took off with no trouble at all!

Stribling Orchard | Apple Picking | at | Auntie Carol gave Charlie tickets to a Nats game for his birthday so Mommy and Henry decided to go apple picking while C & Dad went to the game! We picked up Cousin Chelsea and Miss Jenny, Coop and Em and drove just a little bit west to Stribling Orchard. We had a picnic on a hill in the middle of the orchard and then took lots of pictures of the amazing scenery! Lots of the apples had already been picked but we found there were still lots on the tops of the trees! We found a grabber that helped reach the high ones but the kids thought it was more fun to be lifted up or put on shoulders for picking. It was a really beautiful day and we had so much fun!

 cox farms | fall festival

One of our favorite traditions since moving back to VA is going to Cox Farms in the fall with the Allens. We went on an afternoon right when school got out and enjoyed all the farm had to offer -- without the weekend crowds! Everyone loved the slides, of course, and the corn maze. We rode on the hay ride but Henry didn't like it too much! The farm chores were so much fun with the water spout and corn! Mom didn't think that you boys would like to feed the goats because Charlie has NEVER wanted to touch the petting zoo animals before -- but it was one of your favorite things!! I had to buy lots of extra cups of feed because the goats ate them up so quickly. We picked out our mini pumpkins as we left and bought a few bags of kettle corn and our favorite apple cider too!

For the first time in many years, we spent Halloween as just the four of us but we had so much fun together! We had a lot of giggles over Daddy dressed up as Yoshi so he could match with his boys' Super Mario & Luigi costumes! We walked the neighborhood and filled up the candy bags until they were too heavy to carry. After Henry went home with Daddy, Mom and C kept on and walked over to Cal's house to see if his Daddy dressed up as a pretend statue would scare us -- and it did! When we were all tuckered out from trick-or-treating (and FREEZING!), we watched The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown on TV and pigged out on candy!

And with FOUR little boy cousins, there was LOTS of trains to play with too! Olly even had a train themed birthday party with a big train cake! The highlight of the party was a parachute to run under but there was nothing more wonderful than seeing how happy Olly was to hear everyone sing "Happy Birthday!"

Boston Museum of Science | Since we had so much fun in June at Discovery Place, we thought it would be fun to check out Boston's Museum of Science with all the boys! Olly loved the train and we all enjoyed a wild show of electricity generated by the worlds largest Van de Graff generator! We saw baby chicks, a black widow spider (yuck!), played with robots and computers and tried out what hurricane winds felt like! Lunch in the cafeteria and the view of the city and Charles River was also a wonderful treat!!

Traditions | Christmas | Decorating the tree, gingerbread houses & visiting Santa are all our favorite Christmas traditions! This year, we added in the very DC tradition of visiting the Capitol Christmas tree!

Gingerbread Playdate | Henry's | For extra holiday fun, Henry had a gingerbread decorating playdate with his preschool buddies! The boys heard the story of the runaway gingerbread man and then baked their own cgingerbread man ookies! But after they put them in the oven, they ran away, too, and all the boys had to find them!
