BC: This had nothing to do with the Washington DC trip, it was just another great memory from 8th grade! | Made for Kathy by Mom, we had a great time!
FC: WASHINGTON DC | 2011 | 8TH GRADE | CLASS TRIP
1: We even ran into John and Amber Kitchen, they were on a class trip too! | K | Kah | In May of 2011, Wyneken's 8th grade class went to Gettysburg and Washington D.C. We left on a Monday night and arrived back home on Saturday morning. It was a lot of fun but we were exhausted!

4: NATIONAL CATHEDRAL
5: Tuesday morning, we had breakfast, freshened up and were off to Gettysburg! After touring there, we visited the National Cathedral and then went into Washington D.C. and took pictures of the White House before finally checking into our hotel. The kids all signed their T-shirts and went swimming, while the adults relaxed! | One of the altars has 12 posts, one for each disciple, they are all carved, except for Judas', his is left blank. Helen Keller is buried along with her teacher, Anne Sullivan in the cathedral. THe stained glass window is depicting creation.
9: On Day 2, we were on the bus by 7:00 off to the Supreme Court, the Washington Monument, the Capital Building, and a meeting with Congressman Mike Pence. Then we went to the Korean War Memorial and the WWII Memorial. We had lunch at Union Station and also took a drive down Embassy Row.
10: After our appointment at the Supreme Court we went to the Washington Monument, it was miserably cold, windy and rainy while we waited in line... | WEDNESDAY | THE WASHINGTON MONUMENT
11: 500 FEET | ...but, after we went through security and rode the elevator to the top, it had cleared up and we could see just perfectly fine!

17: We were on the bus by 7:00 am again on Thursday! We headed to Arlington first, then we took the Metro over to the Vietnam wall, after visiting there we had a church service complete with hymns and communion, given by Pastor Brock. From there we went to the Einstein Memorial where the kids had a good time positioning the adults for a photo session! | After they were happy with the results of the photo, we had lunch at Pentagon City (a very nice 4-story mall), and then we went to the Newsseum for a 4-D movie, but Kathy mostly liked the signs in the bathroom! They are on the next page... After the Newseum, we walked over to the Hard Rock Cafe for dinner and then went to see Liberty Smith, a play, at Ford's Theatre.
21: Friday we started out going to Mount Vernon, this place is just gorgeous! We toured the house and some of the grounds, but then Kathy and I sat in the gift shop area and relaxed! We were saving our energy for later! Lunch was a box lunch on ROosevelt Island, that was super! AFter that, it was FREE TIME!!! We spent out time at the Smithsonian ARt Museum, walked through the Sculpture Garden and then the rest of the time was at the Natural History Museum! OUr favorite!! | MOUNT VERNON
