3: Introduction | Hello there, and welcome to my book "My Banded Pitta" this book will fascinate you in all different ways. Some of the things you are going to see is how this bird flies, some fun facts, and much more. So now let's get on with the book. | 8

4: 12 | What is a Banded Pitta? | The banded pitta is a family of colourful birds. This bird is really hard to spot. This little bird lives in the darkest areas of the rain forest of Southeast Asia. These birds continually announce their presence (as if they were kings) with whistles and deep grunts.

5: How this bird flies | Unlike most birds this bird seldom flies.If prefers to hop on or near the dark jungle floor.Scientists do not know why this bird prefers to hop instead. | 16

6: Size and length | The size and lengths of this bird vary. Length is usually 15 to 25 centimetres. It is about the size of a thrush. Which makes this bird harder to spot. | 20

7: Legs | The pita has strong legs and long feet. They help this shy bird hurry out of sight at the first sight of danger. They also help this bird hop. | 24

8: Diet | The pitta's diet consists of: Earthworms Insects Small Lizards Scientists have suggested that they are able to locate food such as earthworms using smell. Some species will also use tree roots and rocks to smash open snails in order to eat. | 28

9: Did you know that the banded pitta can lay up to six eggs. They often end up in unexpected places like house-gardens during migration The main threat to all pittas is extinction. The cause of this is people cutting down trees. Which gives them no place to go. The Latin word for a "Banded Pitta" is "Pitta guajana". | FUN FACTS | 32
