13: We started preparing for Katie's arrival in 1999. Scout assumed that all the commotion (and new furniture) was just for her. | Scout was our baby before we had babies, but she welcomed Katie with open paws. They made an instant connection; in fact, Katie's first word was "gah," which we think was a baby version of "Scout" because she said it whenever she saw a dog. They were early playmates and shared a very special bond.

27: At Christmastime, Scout could always be found under the tree or napping amid gifts. We're pretty sure it's because she knew how important she was to us: Scout was our gift. | Scout's last Christmas - 2010
