FC: Spur of the Moment | One horse's journey from wild to willing.

How we met Spur: Pat Parelli Presents Wild Horse Taming Naturally held at Reno Livestock & Event Center in Reno, Nevada July 29th-31st, 2011. A 4 year old gelding with no handling, he was selected by Ryan Rose, 3 Star Parelli Professional, to be worked with and gentled during the event.

After spending close to 2 year in the BLM holding corrals, Spur was understandable skeptical at first. Spur proved to be a quiet, thoughtful horse with a strong desire to please and, by the end of the weekend, everyone had fallen in love with him! His name is an homage to the hasty decision to adopt him. | Shortly after arriving home.

It wasn't long after arriving home before he was coming up to visit and getting know his new family. Pam and Rich have been gracious enough to allow Kathy to help with Spur's continuing education.

Taking his halter off that first night was a huge milestone and really set the tone for how Spur's training would progress...

Grace is the beauty of form under the influence of freedom ~Friedrich Schiller

Spur quickly made friends with the only mare, Emy.

 Great Grand Mother

Spur is a clever and curious horse, always willing to try and wanting to please.

When he was brought to the event, Spur huge a huge, snarled dreadlock in his mane. Once it was removed, his mane was so uneven that Rich gave the go-ahead to cut the rest of it. Kathy's mom, Sally, came out to help and did a great job.

Spur quickly discovered a love for standing on the pedestal!

 Great Grandfather

Spur was quick to understand that having his feet handled was no big deal. To be safe, we started with using a rope to lift his hind feet, though!

Left Brain Extrovert | One fun thing we did was get together and complete a Parelli Horsanality chart on Spur. It was very interesting to have so many perspectives on the same horse!

Saddling turned out to be another simple task for Spur.

This is not the end of Spur's story, but merely the first chapter of a life-long partnership. As Spur's training continues and his bond with Rich grows, the possibilities for his future are limitless. Spur is a true testament to the adaptability, resilience, and intelligence that the Mustang has come to be known for.
