Mrs. Dowdel is trigger happy and even the law is scared of her.
At first Mary doesn't like living with her grandmother, she makes her sleep in a cold room. later though she starts to like living with her grandmother. She feels like she needs to stay to make sure her grandmother is all right. After the tornado she has been really worried about her grandmother. 4: grandmother made a wedding cake for them.
The tornado was the most exciting part of the book. After the tornado was over they helped there neighbor get out of the rubble of his home.
If I were a new character in the book I would be a friend from Marys old home town. Mary was lonesome in the beginning and a friend like bob would have been someone she could talk to. I think it would be cool if Bob's family had to move to Mary's new town. It would be a big surprise for Mary to have her old friend close again. They could explore her grandmothers place and make new friends together.
A scene in the book may have been like this. Mary was having some trouble making new friends in her new school. All the other kids had grown up together and had a hard time excepting new people. After a few months Mary got a big surprise when she showed up to school on a Monday morning. There in the back of the room was Bob. She was very surprised and asked what he was doing here.
Bob told her all about his family moving. Bob was a very friendly boy and made friends easily. All the other kids wanted to be his friend which made it easier for Mary. When the tornado hit, it was Bob and Mary that went in to the cellar and were saved from the storm.
