S: Betsy and Scottie Bennett - Our First Twenty Years 1992-2012
BC: May the next twenty be filled with even more happiness, more peace, and more joy!
FC: Our First Twenty Years
It started a long time ago, our story - around 1975, at the church we both attended. We both love to tell how we met, and how God led our paths to cross many years later. We are two ordinary people who zigzagged through the years, only to find ourselves at home together.
and in each other we found comfort, peace, and trust. | Our "second encounter" was in 1991, both of us having "loved and lost". God alone knew what we needed...
And so, on February 15, 1992, at Northside Baptist Church, we got married. Our beloved friend Barry Shearer performed the ceremony. | Faith | Hope | Love
Of course, it would not be just the two of us. We both had been married before, so we brought five children into our union as well. | Kevin, Angie, Amy, George, and Ashley now were family to each other.
Home for us would be here - 8809 Fairview Road, in Mint Hill. Kevin and Angie were both married, and George was living with his dad in Rock Hill, so under this roof were Betsy, Scottie, Amy, and Ashley. But despite our branched-out families, this house, where Scottie had lived since it was built in 1974, would be the place all our children would come to when they came home.
The Dunn clan - families of Betsy and her two brothers, Bob & Brian. | The Dunn women - Betsy's mom, sisters-in-law, nieces, daughters. | Betsy's expanded family includes the Wilsons, favorite cousins from childhood. | FAMILY! Ours came ready-made and fully loaded.
The Bennett Brothers: Scottie, Edwin, Michael, and David | Scottie's mom - Catherine Bennett. We all know her lovingly as "Mamaw"., | Aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews - the Bennett family. | Catherine's sisters - Scottie's aunts - Inez, Carla Jean, Barbara | Aunt Paulette and Uncle R.L.
We've had many experiences over the years. There have been graduations...
 Celebrations and baptisms...
In 20 years of marriage, we have hit all the big numbers - 16, 21, 30, 40, 50, 60, 65... well some of us have, anyway, and we have celebrated them all! | And BIRTHDAYS!! We have celebrated many, many birthdays!
And then there are the grandchildren...
Among the joys of seeing our children grow up is the joy of having grandchildren. | The number has grown by birth and by marriage - they are all our grandchildren and we love them!
We have taken some fun vacations. One year, we went to Virginia for a wedding, Wisconsin for a family reunion, and Florida for a week at DisneyWorld. I think we were too broke to go on vacation the next year.
Spending time with family is the best vacation. Frigid Wisconsin, balmy Orlando, breezy Lake Ontario, tropical St. Thomas, and quaint Blowing Rock have all been destinations for us.
There have been a few vehicles in our lives. Some have been prettier than others. Some have even tasted good.
We've also tackled a few projects. The garden is an ongoing project, and making jam is an annual event.
2006 held two weddings - Amy & Brian were married in April, and George & Brittney married in September.
Kevin & Heather wed in 2010, and Ashley & Josh tied the knot in 2011.
If friends were currency, we would be wealthy indeed.
God has blessed us with wonderful friends who have warmed our hearts, encouraged our faith, made us laugh, and helped us grow.
We've both been blessed with wonderful mothers. They taught us so much, and as we grew up they became our friends too.
They have both passed away now, but the memories we have are so sweet and they both have left a legacy imprinted on our hearts.
We've had a lot of great times, too. From playing Shang-Hai with Grandma Dunn, to lounging in the backyard, to visiting with family, to watching ball games, and even racing around the speedway at 145 mph, we have made fabulous memories.
Here we are... Mr. and Mrs. Bennett
We are living happily ever after...
Together is the best place to be!
