FC: MY POEM PORTIFOLIO | GO ZAID | 2-11-10

Table Of Contents 1.Where I'm From 2. My Mother's Kitchen 3. Mother to Son 4. Ode to GSMST 5.Language Arts Poem

Where I'm From I’m from syrup-filled waffles in the morning From the place where getting out of bed is so difficult Where my mom wants everything to be clean Where my life is written on the walls of my room With photos and posters I am from the so called “Dirty South” From the where the Hawks and Falcons stay From areas that are not safe Especially at night Where Coca-Cola is from And where people watch their news from I am from where playing ball is a way of life Where you go hard to the rack or go home Where we play day or night, rain or snow I am from cousins that play basketball in more than one way As in Video games and Reality

I am from a family that is based in Atlanta We are loyal to the city in many ways We cheer for the Hawks Falcons and Braves Where we hate Bulldogs and Love Yellow Jackets Who are located in Atlanta in Georgia Tech I come from A neighborhood where we treat each other as family Where playing outside after school is a daily activity Where moving can be so difficult And the place we saw two babies learn how to talk And slowly begin to play with us.

My Mother's Kitchen “It’s time for dinner!” I think in my head I don’t feel like eating So I try to find an excuse Usually I tell my mom that I have homework to do “Give me another minute or so!” I continue to do my homework And then soon or later I here “Food being cold does not work!” And then I run down the stairs And then I smell the aroma I smell the culture of Pakistan And then I feel the heat of the stove Mom tells me to heat my dinner again I do so and began to eat while I also do my homework

It usually takes me the longest to eat Because i am the slowest eater And i am doing my homework at the same time And there is another distraction known as television Now i have finished eating and I and my mom go through the same deal everyday She cooks i put up the dishes up I do so hesitantly then go back up stairs with a full Stomach and begin to do my homework once more Then I hear...

Mother to Son “Man GSMST is retarded” As it hits one in the morning and I am still doing homework “Maybe you should not have played football today” And I think in my head of course that’s what she was going to say And I try to get my homework/studying over with Then I think of another excuse that would make GSMST retarded “Man they think we have no life?” And then my mom replies and says “Don’t worry just wait until the weekend” And I just continue to do my work My mom tells me then that “We all had to go through this” I think in my head she has a point then It comes to me that this is harder than it was for them probably “This is probably harder than your school” And then there is another Silence

Then she says “Maybe it is, but it will pay off” Then I think to myself will it really pay off We don’t know that yet no one has graduated yet “But mom we don’t know that yet” “Ask your counselor then” I never do ask the counselor And just keep fighting hoping for a brighter future She taught me that even when times are taught fight through it And look at me today I may be up till 1 doing homework but I haven’t dropped out yet

Ode to GSMST GSMST I really can hate you most of the time You make me stay up all night Doing stuff that I do not enjoy Lower my self-esteem after every bad grade Make it seem as sleep is a luxury GSMST may I ask what attribute that you have That keeps me here, what do you have? Wait I think I know the answer to this But this solution has several parts to it So pay attention GSMST, you have given me the opportunity of a life time A brighter future You have given me the chance to become that engineer You have given me the chance to have a successful career And as you say you are World class you are GSMST

GSMST you have also given me one other thing This is a thing that you need Or else life could be a barren waste land without any emotion If you let this go you will regret it And here it is very easy because we all have one common goal to do well You have given me the gift of Friends is what you have given me You have given me some of the greatest people I know that I know I might say that I would die without Thank you GSMST for all you do, Sometimes I may hate you but just remember That I know you have given me something that I can’t live without

Language Arts Poem I wake up early in the morning just for this class and I know that today We have to turn in that one essay I hope I get the really good grade And get an A And this is the class that I am so very sleepy in every day

FIFTY FEET TALL If you were fifty feet tall, you would not go to school the grand oceans would be your swimming pool the hide of an elephant would be your meat and would only take a few seconds to eat a lion would be like a furry flea if you were fifty feet tall If you were fifty feet tall, you would walk over walls and would take only seconds to visit the mall a tropical rainforest would be your bed a snack for you would be a ton of bread you would wear a tin roof upon your head if you were fifty feet tall

You'd paddle across the pacific on a glacier of ice you couldn't hug your mom, she would be like a grain of rice people would run from you with fright to move a pencil would be a frustrating plight this poem would be hard to write if you were fifty feet tall | Analysis Rhyme Alliteration Repetition Metaphor
