1: ibileen | Aibileen is a black maid who has raised 7 white children. She teaches children that the color of a person's skin shouldn't matter or affect what kind of person they are.

3: You Are Always in My Heart | onstantine | The families precious maid. Who is fired while Skeeter is away at college. She gave birth to a light skinned baby and put it up for adoption.

5: lizabeth Leefolt | Skeeter's childhood friend. Cares a lot about appearances and how her house looks. She is a mother, but seems to be annoyed by her daughter.

7: "A mother's smile can brighten any moment, and a simple hug can put joy in your day. A mother's love will stay with you forever, and touch your life in every way."

8: illy Holbrook | Another one of Skeeter's childhood friends whom turns wealthy. She enforces the need for segregation. She keeps her power through threats and blackmail.

9: ndependence.

18: acism | The 1960's was a time full of unequal rights and privileges towards colored people. Schools were segregated along with most everything else. These things happened in the south where slavery was more prominent.

19: keeter | 22 age daughter of a plantation owner. Her dream is to be a writer. She doesn't believe in segregation or racism and is looked down upon by other southern women because of her beliefs.

20: aylor | miss | Mae's preschool teacher. She teaches racism and that black people aren't as smart. And that the children can't attend school.

24: enophobia | -fear or hatred towards foreigners | Since black people were different from whites some people were afraid of them or felt the need to hate them for being in their vicinity.

25: ule May

26: ealous | Skeeter was determined and very enthused to write her book, despite what other people thought of her.
