FC: Another Great Adventure Pacific Northwest Road Trip June 27 - July 5, 2011
Another Great Adventure Our adventure began on June 27th, 2011 and we returned to Colorado Springs on July 5th after a wonderful, fun filled trip, We flew into Portland Oregon and began a road trip that took us through Tacoma and Seattle, WA, on our way to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and then back again. They say it's not the destination that matters, but rather the journey that offers the excitement. We say it's the company.
We stayed for two nights with Marilyn’s cousin Cherrie and her husband Dale Brounstein in Portland. We took a great hike through Washington Park with a visit to the Japanese and Rose Gardens as well.
We happened upon a great Auto-as-Art show, The Allure of the Automobile, at the Portland Museum of Art. Other interesting sculptures and provocative art pieces were on exhibit as well..... Including this, almost disturbing, life-like sculpture.
Tacoma We walked over the amazing Chihuly Bridge of Glass to The Tacoma Museum of Glass . It showcases contemporary glass artists and boasts the world’s largest hot shop, under the 90 foot stainless steel cone.
No mistaking that skyline! Seattle We stayed at the Inn at Queen Anne, walking distance to the Space Needle.
A carnival atmosphere surrounds the Space needle area with some amazing architecture. The Frank Gehry designed Discovery Music Center was a standout.
Seattle on the Water We began Marilyn's Birthday celebration on July 1st with a ferry ride over to Bainbridge Island toting our picnic lunch.
Happy Birthday! A wonderful seafood meal at Anthony’s Restaurant on Lake Union with seaplanes touching down right outside the restaurant window.
CANADA! With passports in hand, we eased across the Canadian border, eh! Our hotel was no more than 100 yards from the beach and we were blessed with sunny skies and mild temperatures during our visit,
We walked all around Stanley Park on a bustling Saturday
We hopped on the narrated sightseeing BIG BUS for an overview of Vancouver.
Steam Clock & Gassy Jack statue in 'Gas Town'
Granville Island offered a blend of art galleries, shops, a huge farmer’s market, harbor side restaurants, AND a surprise.....musicians from the International Jazz Festival performing all afternoon! At days end, we took a water taxi back to Vancouver.
Over the bridge at Dismal Nitch (named by the Lewis and Clark Expedition) as we headed back to Portland stopping at Cannon, and Manzanita Beaches
 Fireworks over Manzanita Beach
Multnomah Falls Our final excursion before heading to the Portland Airport.
Mount Hood makes a rare appearance to bid us farewell as we snap the final photo. Five hours later......Home.
