7: The Vasa Museum

9: The Vasa is the world's only surviving 17th century ship. She sank on her maiden voyage on August 10, 1628. The ship was rediscovered and raised in 1961, after having rested on the sea floor for 333 years. With more than 95% of the original structure and incredibly beautiful ornamentation intact, the Vasa provides a unique insight into the early 17th century.

51: The Cathedral is the most outstanding landmark and favorite religious building in Helsinki. | The cathedral was originally built in 1830 - 1852 | The people of Helsinki gather outside the cathedral to welcome the New Year. | The Lutheran Cathedral on the north side of Helsinki, dominates the Senate Square.

53: THE MAJESTIC BEAUTY OF THE HELSINKI CATHEDRAL

54: The Havis Amanda Fountain with a bronze statue of the naked nymph is located at Kauppatori (Market) Square. | WHERE IS MY HUNTING RIFLE WHEN I NEED IT ?

56: We walked all over the Kauppatori (Market) Square. Even enjoyed a nice cold beer on a rare HOT day in Helsinki.

59: THE OLYMPIC STADIUM WAS USED FOR THE OLYMPIC GAMES OF 1952. ORIGINALLY, FINLAND WAS PLANNING TO HOST THE GAMES IN 1940, BUT THE WAR MADE THAT IMPOSSIBLE, SO THE ART-DECO STADIUM HAD WAIT ANOTHER DOZEN YEARS.

61: Sibelius Park with a huge monument in stainless steel honoring Jean Sibelius, the great nationalistic composer who helped keep the ethnic consciousness alive. | During the Russian period, it was actually illegal to play "FINLANDIA" or some of his works, because of the patriotic stirring they prompted in the Finnish soul.

68: THIS WAS THE VIEW FROM OUR TRAIN CABIN AT 12:00 MIDNIGHT. IT DID NOT TURN DARK UNTILL ABOUT 2:30 AM AND ONLY FOR ABOUT ONE HOUR. WE HOWEVER DID SLEEP WELL AND WERE READY FOR OUR NEXT MORNING IN ......MOSCOW........

71: WE GOT OUR RUSSIAN VISAS READY, SO MOSCOW HERE WE COME !!!! STAY TUNNED TO VOLUME 3 RUSSIA MOSCOW & ST. PETERSBURG
