Many churches and sights to see and of course a lot of gelato to eat, yum. | Victor Emmanuel Monument-huge!
The first night we stumbled on the Pantheon. Built around AD118, is one of Europe's best-preserved ancient buildings. Musicians perform here, making the place even more magical. We even got a full moon, as if it wasn't cool enough.
The huge Trevi Fountain was built in 1453. It is so beautiful in the evening. First Pizza in Rome together. | Tiny Tie Shop | Cute Boutique | Priests shop
The Colosseum is much larger than we expected. Built in Ad70! 73,000 people would fit inside! Wow. | Colosseum is in the distance.

We took a train two hours north to the hill town, Assisi. This was home to St. Francis. He became a saint in 1228. In the distance on the hilltop is a castle. People still live and work here. We so enjoyed our one day in this peaceful place.

On to Zurich. The 7 hour train trip through the alps was amazing. No napping as there was too much to see. A most relaxing way to see so much scenery. Marshall met us in Zurich on his way home from work and we took another short train ride to their home.
Lake Zurich - amazing view from Rachael and Marshalls home | Kitchen | Kiddos | To the train
Waiting to start their annual walk through the woods with their school. They are carrying lite, carved turnips. This is to celebrate Richterswil | Hey Anna, I can't wait!
We took a train to this town for the annual Richterswil parade. Above are floats full of lit, carved turnips. The whole town is lit up. Great local food to top it off.
We went for a little walk and got lost not realizing there are two sets of train tracks. If we had followed the church below as a landmark, we would have found our way, hmmm there is a message there. | This is a steep walk after a long day of work or if you are lost.
Making HUGE bubbles! | Science Museum fun, we learned as much as Anna and Matthew!
Cog wheel train | This will be sooo fun | Very old local town | Going up
This is the view we all had as we took the steepest cog wheel train up a mountain (7000 ft.). High in the alps, we could see 73 mountain summits in the distance. The white below is actually clouds! This was an amazing day, such a highlight in our trip, and we sharing it with our family, made it even more special!
Happy family ready for a hike in the alps. It was warmer up there than in the city below!
We are ready for a hour long hike. Rachael was the photographer for the group, but we manage to get one of her. | Marshall encouraged us on..."No, we must get to the end", who is that nature man?
Such a great picture. Anna and Matthew trooped right along. Notice how easy it would be to fall down the mountain (it was really steep outside the fence).
 Here they come
I think we all felt "on top of the world". Such a fun day, beautiful scenery, fun and memories shared together as a family. Priceless!
