S: Cape Cod Trip 2012
FC: CAPE COD 2 0 1 2
1: INTRODUCTION Before I went to Cape Cod I thought "Oh no not another educational field trip." I thought that it was another one of those field trips that only the teachers found exciting and there was even worse news, I was not able to bring any electronics. I was looking forward to just sitting on the bus and listening to music. On the first day we went to Doane rock and it was actually fun. As the day wore on I started to enjoy myself more and more until I actually started to forget about electronics and have some fun. The next 2 days just flew by. Some of my favorite places that we went to were White Cedar swamp, sand dunes, Marconi Maritime center and Doane rock. The reason why I enjoyed these places so much was because they were different from the other trips that I had gone to. White Cedar swamp was the most unique because it was a place where you could really enjoy nature without hearing the cars and trains whiz by.

Construction began in 1933 and it finally opened to the public in 1935, and it was built by the US army corps. The Sagamore bridge was suspended over a man made canal. The bridge is made of ridged steel bars it is about 600 feet long and where we were standing there was a rocky seashore.

10: Journal entry #2 White Cedar Swamp The trail is beautiful, there were so many trees. I loved the way that there was so much variety in such a small area. My favorite part of the trail was at the second left turn, I saw a hawk, a frog and a hawks nest. I also saw a bright white flower that was shaped like a 5 pointed star. I would love to come back to White Cedar Swamp in the winter because the snow on the trees would look amazing.

16: Marine collecting at Paine's Creek.
17: Journal Entry #3 Paines Creek We have just come back from marine collecting at Paines creek. It was very hard to find animals because they were adapted to blend in with the water and sand. The crabs were very difficult to catch because they blended into the sand. When we put 2 particularly large crabs in the same bag they started to fight. I think that they were fighting over territory. We also saw a crab with eggs on her stomach. My favorite part was when we saw the horseshoe crab. It was lying in the sand and I almost stepped on it. Later that same day we went to a beach near Wellfleet harbor and we saw the empty shell of 5 horseshoe crabs.
18: A Horseshoe Crab in the sand.
19: Going for lunch at Wellfleet harbor.
20: Sand Dunes in Truro.
21: Poem | Poem #2 Dunes(Pantoum) I ready myself to jump but I back away. It's too scary up here. To jump, that would be suicide. It's too scary up here. Maybe over here? That would be suicide. I don't know maybe over here? I stop thinking and jump.

29: Poem # 3 Coast Guard Beach. Sand bars, waves licking at the shore. BOOM! a wave crashes on the beach. The spray hit my face, I feel like I have been slapped. Then calm no waves only silence. I step out into the ocean water and bask in the rays of light poking out from behind the clouds.
30: Button Bush Trail.
31: Poem #4 Button Bush trail Blind walking slowly suddenly a bump, I trip but the rope catches me. Now I know the challenges of being blind. A car zooms by its radio blasting music. I hear it more clearly then I would have with my eyes open. Amazing.

35: CONCLUSION After we arrived back at school I had time to think about the time at the Cape. I realized that it was not just a trip it was an experience. I had so much fun that I completely forgot about my phone, the Celtics and music. The only time that I remembered that there was tv was at Red barn pizza. The Cape trip really exceeded my expectations. I enjoyed some of the places so much that over the summer my family is going to try and revisit those places. During the Cape trip I did not feel like I learned anything. I only realized that the trip was educational when I started doing this project. All in all the Cape trip was an amazing experience I was able to witness nature untouched by humans now I now and understand why Rachael Carson fought so hard to preserve the environment.
