S: BIRTHRIGHT ISRAEL July 6 - 17, 2011

FC: BIRTHRIGHT ISRAEL July 6-17, 2011

1: My Travel Buddy, Rachel

2: We arrived in Israel at 6am and headied to our first Kibbutz: Afik Guest House, in Galilee.

3: We hiked down Mt. Arbel, and saw the Sea of Galilee! | DAY 1 : Thursday, July 7 | We finished the day at the Golan Olive Oil factory, and got to try a few samples.

4: We hiked in the Jilaboon, along a stream in the Golan. | DAY 2 : Friday, July 8

5: We looked over the Jordan Valley and Syria at Mitzpe Gadot. | Time for Shabbat

6: Shabbat Shalom! We spent the day by the pool, then took a walk around the Kibbutz and found a natural spring. | DAY 3 : Saturday, July 9

7: We spent the evening at the Tiberias Promenade, for dinner and shopping.

8: We were in Tzfat all morning, learning about Kabballah art and eating pizza.

9: DAY 4 : Sunday, July 10 | We traveled to Tel Aviv, learned about Yitzhak Rabin, saw the Mediterranean, heard a famous musician, and drank Goldstar at a bar!

10: We visited the Independence Museum, where David Ben Gurion declared Independence of the State of Israel. | Then we traveled to Jerusalem, and saw the city at Haas Promenade!

11: We stopped by the Jewish Quarter in the Old City of Jerusalem, and spent time at the Western Wall. | DAY 5 : Monday, July 11 | We saw the campaign to free Gilad Shalit, the kidnapped Israeli soldier.

12: We visited the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial on Mt. Herzl, and heard from a survivor. | DAY 6 : Tuesday July 12

13: We traveled to the Negev Desert! We had a Bedouin Hospitality Meal, and sang songs by a campfire.

14: We woke up in the Negev Desert, and went on an eventful Camel Trek! | DAY 7 : Wednesday, July 13

15: Then, we hiked in the Tzin desert along the Havarim stream. | We visited David Ben Gurion's grave, Israel's first Prime Minister. Time to head to Masada!

16: DAY 8 : Thursday, July 14 | We started the day at 3:30am to hike Masada, and watch the sunrise over the Dead Sea.

17: Time to float in the Dead Sea! We bought spa "mud" treatment to fit in. | We ended the day with the Birthright Israel Mega Event in Tel Aviv. A concert with Birthright participants from around the world.

18: We went to Neot Kadumim biblical gardens, and planted acorns. Then, we traveled to Jerusalem and visited Mayaan's house (an Israeli soldier.) | We spent the afternoon at an outdoor market, and then went back to our kibbutz to prepare for Shabbat.

19: DAY 9 : Friday, July 15

20: Happy Shabbat! We discussed this week's Parashat Hashavua, and then spent the afternoon by the pool. | DAY 10 : Saturday, July 16 | We ended Shabbat with a beautiful Havdallah service.

21: It's our last night in Israel... We traveled to Ben Yehuda Street for dinner and celebrating.

22: DAY 11 : Sunday, July 17 | Our last day in Israel. We visited Har Herzl, Israel's military cemetery in Jerusalem.

23: We said our goodbyes, and caught our flight home at Ben Gurion Airport. | Achim! Achim! Achim!
