FC: Jean and Bill Lorenz' Journey to Cwm Chwefru, Wales and London, England June-July 2011 | Sitting in Tampa International Airport awaiting our flight. 6/24

Our chariot awaits. Once we arrived in the UK, we had to reaccquaint ourselves with driving over there. | Driving on the Left | Signs written in English and in Welsh. Strange symbols. Stranger engineering techniques.

Our first Stop was at Tintern Abbey in Wales.

 Cwm Chwefru Country Cottages

spring is in the air | springtime

 Chwefru River

Country Cottages Facilities | The Dinning Room | Game room

Bitters, Ales, IPAs, Lagers, Stouts, Porter. We drank more than 30 different kinds.

The scenery in Wales was beautiful. There are many natural Wells or springs in Wales. Llandrindod Wells was one of them.

Near Builth was a monument to the site where Prince Llywelyn was killed by an English soldier. He was the last truly Welsh Prince. | A farmer was shearing his sheep in a nearby field.

It was a pleasure to watch the sheep dogs so intently working with the shepherd to herd the sheep. You could tell they loved the work. They certainly looked a lot more enthralled than the shepherd and his wife did. | There were creeks and streams everywhere.

book markets | A village totally devoted to books. Pure paradise.

Hay on Wye Clock tower | Hay on Wye

St. Afan's was one of teh first sites of Christianity in Wales. It was built on an old druid site, so the religious use went back centuries. St. Afan was buried here to the right of the church. His crypt is very evident. One of the yew trees on the property was over 2000 yeasr old.

Sheep are prevalent everywhere | Some of the artifacts go back to the 1200s. We were shown around by the Vicar, David Griffith.

 summer | Wales | bloom

St. Mary's | Elan River Valley

 cwm Chwefru

"For the winter is past, the rain is over and gone. The flowers are springing up and the time of the singing of birds has come. Yes, spring is here." ~ Song of Solomon 2:11-12 | Powis Caslte and Gardens

"No matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow." ~ Proverb from Guinea | Powis Castle

 Powis Castle and Gardens

Bernard Cronwell's Sharpe novels come to life. Sharpe's Tiger. | Clive of India was an important figure in Serringapatam. His son inherited Powis Castle

 Llandrindod Wells and Rock Park

Hay on Wye Castle | The Three Tuns

Alberyswyth: Castle, Welsh National Library, The Ship and Castle, and Lew Du Pubs

Gospel Pass | Two way traffic

 Strata Florida Abbey

Devil's Bridge | Seems an old Welsh woman' cow got on the other side of the ravine and she couldn't retrieve her.

The Devil offered to build her a bridge if she'd let him take the first living soul that crossed the thing. | So, when the bill was to be paid, the old woman sent her dog across the bridge, thus faking out the Devil who left in a snit. Seems he didn't want the dog.

We took a steam engine train from Devil's Bridge to Aberyswyth

This one was in Newbridge on Wye | The Pubs were entertaining

Rhayadar was a nice little village with great pubs.

The Gigrin Red Kite Feeding station. Through conservation efforts, these magnificent birds have been brought back from the edge of extinction.

LONDON Our self-catering apartment was at 19 Rosary Gardens in Kensington. I loved the French Doors in our room. It was a teeny studio apartment but plenty big enough for us.

Kensington Palace was being renovated and so they made the state rooms in to fairy tale extravaganas featuring the lives of seven princesses who lived there at one time.

We went to see Richard III staring Kevin Spacey. My spell of vertigo didn't suit the 3rd floor balcony seats we had.

 spring | sunshine | bloom

 Scenes | London
