S: Kauai - 2010
BC: Mahalo for viewing these pictures.
FC: Kauai Trip to the Garden Isle with friends | Aloha!
This is where we stayed. It was very nice, with a great restaurant. | One of the many roosters in Kauai. This one was up in Waimea Canyon. In 1992, hurricane Aniki released a lot of chickens and roosters, and they've multiplied and run wild since.
 Randy & Holly Swinging!
This was our first day. We kayaked and hiked to this waterfall. Both Randy and Robin swam to the falls.
The Beach House restaurant. Another great restaurant where we ate twice. It was on the south side of Kauai, so it was one of the best places to watch the sunset. | Everybody came here to watch the sunset and take pictures. | They line up along the wharf every evening.
 Just another sunrise.....
We drove up Waimea Canyon, where the temperature drops about 30 degrees. It's sort of like a mini Grand Canyon.
 More of Waimea Canyon
Still Waimea Canyon on the left. Then we went on a 4 mile hike along the Napali coast. It was a very tiring 4 hour hike, but the views were fantastic.
More of the hike along the Napali Coast. I took quite a few pictures, as it was an excuse to stop and rest!
This is the beach 2 miles in (we had to hike the 2 miles back!) The rocks are here in the winter, but in the summer, the surf brings the sand in and this becomes a sand beach. Awesome waves here.
More on the beach. We had a snack, but the birds wanted some too.
This hike went up and down along the coast, so as you can see, we got up pretty high.
Back at the start, Haena Beach I think | The roosters watch the surf too. | There was a high surf warning | Holly and Randy made it back before us, and had a snooze.
From the St. Regis. This was just East of Hanalei Bay, and was a convenient place to stp and have a drink | A bird, visiting us at the St. Regix | A wildlife Refuge
Robin and I went on a helicopter ride. We were able to see parts of the island you can't see any other way. Robin wasn't real crazy about this.
I think the area above was in the Jurassic Park movie.
This was Waimea Canyon, from a different perspective than our drive, thia is from inside the canyon!
The Napali Coast on the opposite page. On this page is Hanalei Bay.
Our pilot. By the way, he doesn't hike the Napali Coast because he's afraid of heights. Go figure....
above left: Wailua Falls above right: Opaeka'a Falls right: A small river that feeds Wailua River. This area was also used for filming Indiana Jones.
This is the location for the filming of most of Jurassic Park. We had to drive a VERY rough 5 miles or so (good thing we had Jeeps), and then a short hike. See the poles in the picture on the left. This was the sign that said "Welcome to Jurassic Park". We kept looking, but we didn't see any dinosaurs.
Bubba's had great burgers and fries. This was a nice break from all the wonderful seafood we had. | "Spouting Horn" Park | A hen and 14 chicks!
This was our "sunset cruise". Lot's of whales and nice scenery of the southern coast and the Napali coast.
Napali Coast. Now we've seen it from land, air, and sea.
There were actually 2 whales jumping here! See the fin of the second one on the left.
A 10 mile bicycle ride along the coast. | Panoramic Sunrise | Got this while eating dinner at the Beach House. | Another sunset at the Beach House restaurant
Close to the end. We ate at the Hanalei Dolphin by Hanalei Beach
I liked this view of the road going "through" the jungle.
The Kilauea lighthouse, and the Kilauea National Wildlife Refuge. This is home to hundreds of red-footed Boobies. | View to the North to Hanalei Bay.
 A red-footed Boobie in flight. | A Great Frigatebird
We spotted whales off the coast here too.
A red-footed Boobie perched in tree fairly close.
