After traveling through the night and getting a ticket we made it to our first destination.
3-13-2010 10:05 am - We made it! OOPS...the roads are all dirt and Jim is having concerns because the visitor center is 27 miles from the main entrance down a bumpy dirt road. We all had a real good laugh!
 Views from our campsite.
3-13-2010 11:56 am - We finally made it to our site. 4x4 high clearance is an understatement about the road we traveled to get here, but the road was worth the destination. Peace, quite, and no one around for miles.
Sauceda - The Center of Big Bend Ranch State Park
Closed Canyon - The first trail of our trip. There were places we had to slide down on our bottoms and climb down to get to the next level.
3-14-2010 9:17 am - On the way to Big Bend National Park we stopped at the river to skip stones, relax, and stretch our legs. 30 minutes to Big Bend National!
3-14-2010 - 11:46 am - Our first stop in the Park was Sam Nail Ranch. The girls got to lead the way through a thicket of trees.
3-14-2010 2:05 pm - Homer Wilson Ranch. The house was beautiful and had great mountain views. It is amazing to see a structure so old in relative good condition.

Tuft Canyon last hike of the day.
Relaxing after a long, hot day of hiking.

3-15-2010 - 4:28.pm - We finished the Balanced Rock trail! Majestic - Priceless - those are good terms to describe the breathtaking views.! No man could have made that - Hello God!
We went down to the Rio Grand Valley and went through the tunnel. It is real neat the way the storm clouds are rolling in over the mountains.
Bridge to the Tunnel that leads to the Rio Grand Valley - look at the storm clouds!
Yedra Trailhead Only accessible via a 4x4 High Clearance Vehicle Only trail, but worth it!
3-16-2010 - 12:48pm - We decided to drive to Yedra Trail and the walk the trail. We followed the trail to the North until it stopped. Rather than turning around, we made our own trail. We climbed , went through thicket, and followed the river bed. I got to use my new compass. We finally ended up back at the trail we started on. It was the best trail so far. We got to find our own way! We saw many things we would not have seen on a regular trail.
Yedra Trail - Bones! We would not have these seen on a regular trail
 Making our own trail!

3-18-2010 - 11:20 am Last night we attended the Star Party at the McDonald Observatory. We are on our way back for the Daylight Tour.
This telescope is very large. Lillian got to push the controls to make the dome floor rise up. The girls answered the question correctly so they got a prize! | 3:15 pm - We just finished the Daylight Tour. We got to see a solar flare. After the sun watching we went to the 107" telescope. We got to go onto the dome floor.
I was the Official Huge Marshmallow Cooker. I cooked one so well it was crispy on the outside, not burnt, and completely gooey in the middle - Perfect!

3-19-2010 6:25 pm - We are back at comp. We left the Historic Site at 4:20 so it took over 2 hours to get back. The historic site was so neat! We got to hear and see a real cannon fire. Lillian earned her Jr Ranger Patch. We walked close to 12 miles today - it was worth it!
3-20-2010 6:51 pm - We stopped at the Caverns of Sonora. The tour was 1 hour and 45 minutes long. I enjoyed the hike and view. Lillian and Abigail both walked the whole time. It was hot inside the cavern and cold when we came out.
3-21-2010 12:23 pm We stopped at Palmetto State Park, we were going to sit on the bench and eat our beef jerky but it was too cold and windy. The girls got to play though, We are on the last stretch of our trip. 3:35 pm We finally made it home! we traveled 2,317.4 miles this trip. I got a pin from each place we visited.
