2: The Muhal Empire, founded in Babur lasted from 1526 to 1857, more than 300 years. This empire in South Asia worked to bring the people together, and gave us beautiful creations of art. Under Akbar the Great, the Mughal Empire grew, and continued to expand until the end of Aurangzeb's rule. Jahangir, the son of Akbar, ruled the empire between 1605-1627. When Shah Jahan, Jehangir's son, became emperor in October 1627, the empire was large and wealthy enough to be considered one of the greatest empires in the world at that time. | The Mughal Empire

8: Fort of Agra Ever since Babur defeated and killed Ibrahin Lodi at Panipat in 1526, Agra played an important center of Mughal Empire. Akbar chose this city on the bank of River Yamuna as his capital and proceeded to build a strong citadel for the purpose. | Shan Jahan moved his capital from Agra in an attempt to bring prestige to his reign, and to provide ample opportunity to fulfill his ambitious building schemes and interests. The Red Fort stands at the eastern edge of Shahjahanabad, receiving its name from the massive wall of red sandstone that defines its four sides. | Humayan's Tomb Humayan was the second Mughal emperor in India. This garden tomb was built in 1565 and was commissioned by his "senior" widow. There are several buildings and gates on this complex--even his barber was buried here.
9: The Taj Mahal is one of the most well-known places, built during the Mughal Empire. Shah Jahan hired the best architects to build the Taj Mahal as a monument to his beloved wife Mumtaz Muhal. It is a gorgeous white marble tomb, as "beautiful as she was beautiful", and people from all over the world come to marvel at it's beauty.
