S: Puerto Rico 2010
BC: Good bye Puerto Rico We had a great time seeing you! Thank You Grandma Fatha for taking us along!
It is April 27, 2010 and we were off on a spontaneous trip to Puerto Rico with special thanks to Grandma Fatha for funding our great experience that we will never forget!
Backpacks full, early rise, airport excitement and coffee for the tired parent!
Our first morning we had to wake up really early so we could catch the taxi van for our ride to Fajardo. | Brenden was so tired that he actually slept through all the morning noise of everyone getting ready. He never does that.
Waiting..... | If you ask, "when are we leaving" one more time.... | Waiting.... | Waiting...
Puerto Rican time is for the birds cause we waited so long for this boat to get moving.
On the freezing ferry boat ride.
We finally made it to the beautiful island of CULEBRA. We needed to figure out how we were going to get Grandma Julia to our hotel. There was a nice guy who loaded up his golf cart with grandma, the boys and the luggage.

This tank was left here after the Fleet Marine Force left in 1975. The island was used by them for amphibious training to practice beach landings and naval gun fire support. Now it has become a famous landmark for the island of Culebra.
 The famous Culebra tank.
This guy named Jorge had a little shop of his art and if you look through the back door was his house. It was not your ordinary house. It was a "tree house". He let us walk through it and it was interesting to talk to him and see how he lived. He built a sink and dropped a hose down from the branches, slept in a hammock and hung xmas lights.
He lived at the edge of the canal so under the tree were tons of huge crabs. There was a tarp above to keep the rain out from the top. Brenden bought a shirt he designed with the famous tank symbol on the front. It was very interesting talking with him.
 In Jorge's Tree house
and he built it by himself and doesn't pay rent.

Brenden and Mom decided to go snorkeling where the pelicans were diving for food. It was so amazing to see what the pelicans were diving after. We were soon surrounded by a gazillion sardines. We also had this one bigger fish just follow us around. There were some really bright fish around us too. | Then the next day we came back and brought Jason and Grandma Fatha to our spot and showed them what we were talking about. Jason spotted a foot long bright blue fish. We all loved it especially being surrounded by millions of sardines.

 Beautiful Zoni Beach
The ride to Zoni Beach was so crazy. The driver drove so fast and the road was full of bumps and holes and there were lots of turns and steep hills but it was worth it once we got to the beach. There was no one here but a dog who wouldn't leave us alone.
On this beach there were a lot of roped off areas where turtles had laid their eggs. Across the way were islands with white sandy beaches just like the one we were on.
 Random Beach Photos
Why did the chicken cross the road?
To see the dog on the roof on the other side!
Heading back to the main island on the ferry boat and I think we could have stayed a few more days.
The ride back was so full of people and we just happen to pick the area where the loudest, wildest and drunkest people were. The guy blowing a whistle and being obnoxious made it hard to sleep.
A Picture Perfect Day in Old San Juan
Grandma Julia walked the whole way to El Morro
We had fun exploring the old ruins of El Morro while Gladys Julia and Phyllis waited out front.
El Morro was full of neat rooms, arches, windows, doors and staircases | It was such a hot day | Thank goodness for the shady areas | A perfect place for taking pictures

We walked around the town, ate some chicken on skewers and some shave ice. There were some pretty birds that made unique noises. We enjoyed a boat ride during the day to view all the islands in the bay and swam in the shallow waters near one of the islands. The rental van battery died so we had to get it jumped and then we were on our way back to Carolina to Phyllis'.
