BC: T | To Mom, Merry Christmas 2011 Thanks for the memories Love, Julie
FC: Panama Canal Cruise January 2011 | The Trip of a Lifetime
On January 6th, 2011, after saying goodbye to Benji, LaVelle and Linda flew to Sea-Tac airport to meet Julie for their flight to Fort Lauderdale | What a great idea to have matching lime-green luggage. Can anyone say "tacky tourist?"
After a very long day, the 3 of us checked into our room. We were short one bed and had no drapes, but we were in Florida | The next morning we even ran into some friends from home
Finally it was time to check in and board The MS Statendam " | My She Was Yar...
MS Statendam She carries 1,260 passengers and a crew of 580. She is 719 feet long. Her maiden voyage was in January 1993
Holland America's Statendam She was old...half the time we had cold showers...the stateroom was either too hot or too cold... but we called her home for 14 days and loved every minute of it
 Welcome to Aruba
Shopping! | Sightseeing | Our first stop was Oranjestad, Aruba. We had an interesting bus tour and a few hours of shopping
It took us most of the day to travel through the Panama Canal. It was an awesome sight to behold
Panama City looked so beautiful in the distance
Costa Rica was lush and green with bright flowers and mouth watering fruits. We saw an array of beautiful handmade wood crafts | Costa Rica
Buenos Dias Mexico | We even had fun when the bus broke down | Breaking for lunch | Huatulco is a gorgeous little town | Linda dipped her toes in the warm Pacific | Another bus tour
Cliff Divers | Museums | ACAPULCO | Bus Tour
Hollywood Legends | Drinks | Churches
CABO SAN LUCAS | & | Senor Frogs Restaurant and Bar, apparently well known for it's party scene | We took a tour of the Glass Blowing Factory. They had lots of beautiful glass figurines and vases that they were selling for lots of Pesos | Cabo was the only port we had to take a tender to. Linda had a bit of a hard time with the rough ride, but it wasn't very long so she ended up being OK
SAN JOSE DEL CABO | & | The Arch at Land's End in Cabo San Lucas | La Internacional was a restaurant in the main square in San Jose del Cabo | and more shopping | More bus rides
A Chocolate Extravaganza Night on the ship. Waiters brought out an assortment of goodies for the passengers to feast on. Everything was scrumptious
Then we had a Mexican Fiesta Night. It was so fun watching the little ladies dance to YMCA. We laughed a lot that night.
How we Spent our Days and Nights on the Ship | In the morning we ate breakfast | At 1:00 we might enjoy High Tea | Of course at 6:00 we dined | In between meals we might see a show in the Showroom at Sea | Or join a sing along at the piano bar | Or hang with friends
The Ship's Entertainment was Fabulous | Anthony was our Cruise Director & MC | We enjoyed many nights listening to Stryker | Lawrence sang a special song by our request | The Indonesian Crew performed one night | These eight people entertained us in the showroom almost every night. They sang and danced and made us laugh putting on their silly skits. Personally they were all very nice. We would see them at night in the Lido restaurant when we went up for a late night snack.
Our Fabulous Crew | Our Captain Franz Consen and crew saying farewell | Nugie | Addie | Khrisna | Lawrence
Of course some of us had our Favorites | Well 14 days after we arrived on board, it was time to say goodbye to our new family. It was a sad day and admittedly we shed a few tears. None of us wanted to leave our home at sea. It was January 21st, 2011 when we arrived in San Diego. After eating breakfast and saying goodbye once again to our friends we boarded a bus to the airport. It was an amazing journey that we still talk about and yearn to repeat.....maybe someday
