S: Nyerie and Kristen: The Mascha Days
FC: Germany Part I Lake Ammersee and Munich
And so it starts at Bush Intercontinental Airport. Yes, that is Nyerie picking the nose of a longhorn.
Air France serves mighty fine food! Everything's good until CDG... | Hmm... Maybe we should learn a new language! How about French?
Mercedes Cabs! | Nyerie being a kid | NOT our rental | Even I'm playing!
Our cozy bed at Mascha's. We couldn't make it that first day. As soon as we got to Mascha's, it was time for a snooze.
In the morning, we had coffee and enjoyed the cool breeze out on the patio. AND I got lots and lots of quark to eat!
Mascha and Lutz's wedding ceremony at the Rathaus. Here they are taking part in the traditions of their family and friends. This is the Therburg tradition: sawing a log.
And this tradition is the planting of the tree. I think they'll plant it somewhere important but I couldn't catch it, you know, everything being in German and all.
The onlookers, enjoying the ceremony and the fertility wheat. | Mascha received wheat for fertility. She promptly shared the wealth.
More wonderful wedding photos. | Miriam, the bride's sister and our first tour guide, is on the right.
The beautiful bride with her bouquet
After, Nyerie and I set out to explore
 Diesen | Lake Ammersee
On the train, heading to the football game!
 Allianz Arena
Go Bayern! | More Bundesliga | Parking garage | vs. Wolfsburg
 Our Hotel | Ammersee
Walking along the promenade... | We discover Eis!
For the reception, we all travel by ferry.
First is cake and more tradition sharing. | This is Aude. She has a very unique tradition involving a chamber pot.
EWW! Sausage, chocolate and toilet paper packed into a chamber pot.
Martjin to the left, Nyerie to the right | Dinner hall
Beautiful setup | Lots of Euros! | I got the veal | Bridal party table
The menu cover theme was recreated throughout. | At the end of the night, we floated candles in little paper bags down the lake.
The DJ really made our night! I should have been home in bed by this point! But at the very end, I proceeded to enjoy Jagermeister with lemon with Nyerie and Michael. That was a very, very bad idea.
On the road again...I start out driving but don't last too long. Nyerie quickly takes over. | Our little Hyundai! | Yup, that's uphill. | The landscape | We're finally there! Schloss Neuschwanstein, here we come!
So, I gathered my strength, took some meds, and started heading towards the castle. Then, I realized that taking the bus was a much better idea than a 40 minute hike.
Yes, we walked up many flights of stairs to some of those top levels. By then, my headache had worn off but things were still rough. | After food, we started heading down, and this time, we walked, with a lot of moaning on my part. We made several stops.
 Stop one. | Stop two.
Stop three. | Yes, that is horse poo.
The German Alps | You can almost smell the fresh, crisp air!
Gorgeous mountains | Sound of Music anyone? | Can you slow down by now? | A small church on the side of the road | We just liked the deer in headlights look.
The Mercedes-Benz HQ and museum. All of their cars are in red in the windows. Inside, there is a museum of historical Mercedes cars.
Ahh, beautiful historic Munich. Today is the day for sightseeing in the city. Mascha and Lutz will join us shortly.
The Residenz Museum, where all the kings of Bayern lived throughout the centuries. Each added on to the palace with his own unique style. We, however, were running late, so we only saw the outside. Below is King Ludwig who built Schloss Neuschwanstein.
The Lions outside the Residenz Theatinerkirche in Odeonsplatz
 The English Garden
Festsaalbau, the southwestern portion of the Residenz, visible to us from the English Garden.
English Garden | Built in 1617 | A walk around the English Garden | Hofgarten | Temple of Diana
Fun bike racks, above, and the Bavarian State Chancellery, below. The modernization of the Chancellery was hotly disputed and the building wasn't finished until 1992.
We stopped in the beautiful English Garden and waited in the Temple of Diana for Mascha and Lutz to join us. While waiting, we were entertained by a talented violinist.
 Inside Diana's Temple | Theatinerkirche
After a Bavarian lunch in the biergarten in the English Garden, all of us wandered around the grounds of the park for awhile before rounding back to Marienplatz. Let me talk about our lunch. I had weisswurst, red onions, salad, "pub cheese" and bread. Nyerie had the biggest pretzel I've ever seen! And thus our love of the Bayern pretzel began. | At the right is inside the Hofbrauhaus, the famous brewery of Munich. During Oktoberfest, this bierhaus is the center of festivities. The bierhaus was first established in 1589 and has continued to expand. The haus now seats 1900 people!
The modern side of Munich | for some wonderful shopping!
The Neues Rathaus in Marienplatz, completed in 1909. | We waited for the clock to chime but at 6:05p, we decided to move on to the next fun spot.
 Chinasischer Turm | Monopteros
More ornate Munich buildings. I couldn't stop taking pictures! | The river running through the English Garden. At one end, surfers take on the standing wave.
Back at Mascha and Lutz's house, we enjoyed a wonderful German dinner of bread, berries, and beer. Just enough to prepare us for the rest of our journey. On to Berlin!
