A teacher is a travel guide with their students as travelers on a shared journey.
A travel guide creates a plan of the places the group will travel to, the time it will take and the final destination. If you do not have a plan and a map to guide you through your trip, it is very likely for the travelers to get lost along their journey. | The curriculum and learning outcomes are the road maps for the learning direction.
Lesson Plan | Learning Outcomes | As a teacher, my career involves a wide range of plans. I will plan yearly, monthly, and daily to ensure all my curricular outcomes are being achieved. The final goal that teachers work towards is having the students move onto their next learning experience with having learned the necessities that were required throughout that year. Without creating a plan, there may be no direction or movement towards goals throughout the school year. A plan will keep my student's education on track. | Teachers create plans in relation to goals, content delivered, instructional procedures, timing and evaluation.
The next step to a road trip is to pack your luggage that you would like to take along on your trip. Packing the right materials can improve the quality of the experience. The travel guide is responsible to ensure all materials are collected for a successful trip. | Items to bring on Miss. Whatmore's class road trip: | -$75 -clothing and personal items -journal -map -snacks and water bottle -sunscreen -camera (optional) -sleeping bag and pillow
When teaching students, all attainable resources to apply the curriculum to the students interests and everyday lives should be used. When teaching it would be beneficial to have a variety of resources to take with me throughout the school year that will improve my teaching knowledge and abilities. Technology can expose me to new ideas and create learning for my students that can be related to their everyday life. Sharing resources and collaborating with other teachers can help me as a new teachers to expand on my knowledge and ideas. Also, the resources I will have discovered through education prior to having a teaching career can be used for the basic foundations of my class. I want to make my curriculum current and applicable in every context for my students.
On a road trip, a travel guide gives the directions of how to get to a specific place. Directions inform a traveler in a concrete step-by-step fashion to ensure all travelers have the appropriate information to continue on with their journey.
Teachers give students material to learn from in order to get to a common educational goal. As a teacher, being fully competent in the subject manner I am teaching will give the best instructions and answer any questions about the subject matter. Being proficient in the subject matter will allow me to relate the material to my student's everyday life.
While on a trip, a traveler may explore new paths other than the ones shown to them by the travel guide. The traveler may discover new ways of reaching their destination that were never known before.
,As a teacher I need to be aware and use different learning modalities to teach a certain subject. Each student has a different way that they can best achieve their educational goals. Being aware of each student’'s strengths and weaknesses will allow them to reach their full potentials as learners. For each opportunity, I need to create choices to allow students to explore different ways of learning the material.
During a road trip there may be set backs such as a flat tire or an engine problem. The trip may also get off course causing the travelers to become lost. To get back onto the road, the guide must either re-direct the trip, fix the problem him or herself, or call a professional to take care of the issue.
Teachers are mentors and guides to ensure students are staying on track. If a student gets on the wrong path or falls behind, a teacher should be aware of this and help them overcome their problems. I as a teacher want to be available for extra help and be flexible in how I teach to ensure my students are preforming to the best of their ability. Being in tune of how students are doing and guide them along will help resolve the problem should one arise.
,The travel guide has the role of ensuring all travelers are accounted for and safe along their journey. The guide manages the students by taking roll call, using a buddy system, ensures everyone knows the directions and encourages everyone to stay close to the regular path. | School | travel
A teacher has the responsibility of managing the classroom. The teacher creates a positive and manageable learning environment by taking into consideration the material being taught, the layout and qualities of the learning space, creating guidelines for the classroom and the routine of punishments among many other things. As a teacher, I have to role of ensuring a that all students feel safe, respected and valuable.
During the road trip, strong relationships can be developed among passengers. The travel guide gets familiar with qualities of the passengers that they may not have learned in other situations. The passengers learn to trust the travel guide throughout their journey. A road trip can create stronger bonds between all individuals involved. | A road trip is like an educational adventure with your students.
As a teacher I want to make the conscious effort of creating a respectful, trustful and caring relationship with all my students. I want my students to feel they can come to me about any issues or concern in school or their daily lives. Being a positive and approachable teacher is an essential characteristic that I will bring forth to my own teaching practice. It is very important to me to take an interest in their personal lives to know them as individuals rather than just students. | "Teachers who foster positive relationships with their students create classroom environments more conducive to learning and meet students'’ developmental, emotional and academic needs." -American Psychological Association
A travel guide can increase their knowledge of their tour areas by researching and collaborating with other travel guides. To better their own profession, a travel guide can take action in their learning by enhancing their pre-existing knowledge.
I feel all teachers need to take part in professional development sessions to guarantee they are learning the newest and greatest information to be used within their classrooms. By expanding my own knowledge on a certain area or technology, I am not only benefiting my students' learning, but creating a life-long learning philosophy for my own teaching profession.
At the end of the road trip, the travelers and travel guide can look back on the experience and reflect on how they handled the conflicts and setbacks. The travelers will also be able to recall all the great memories and learnings from the trip.
When assessing students, it is important to me to holistically see how well the student handled creating, presenting or delivering specific information. Instead of seeing their setbacks as mistakes we should be interested in how well the students handled their hardships and the amount they learned from them. As a teacher, I feel it is important to give students constructive feedback so they can improve on in their next assignment or test.
On a road trip, the travel guide's job is to ensure the travelers are learning, exploring and most importantly having a fun time. The travel guide should encourage travelers to take risks and be open to new experiences. The travelers and the travel guide should enjoy the ride and absorb the experience to the fullest. | Teach
In a classroom, the teacher should be the main source to create enjoyment, fun, and excitement. The teacher should be open to new experiences and methods of teaching and in return the students should be open to new opportunities. I believe the teacher should most importantly enjoy their classroom and their students and be passionate about teaching.
