1959 | 1959 | 1963 | 1964 | This book is to celebrate our life together, the opportunities we had both in Brazil and the USA, and to understand that the life we made, and the love we have, can last forever...

 Mineiro & Gis | 1964 | 1967 | 1969 | 1965

1969 | 1968 | 1970 | 1970 | The world changed and so did we. We played games, we learned, used our talents, unaware of what the future held for us, completely carefree! Wasn't that great?

The story that follows and the years that made it a sure thing are the results of simple acts of faith: a goal was written, a sign was given, two people listened and love made its way through two young and hopeful hearts. Nothing was obvious, and all was uncertain, but the hand of the Lord surely was helping it work... and it did. | 1980 | 1981

1980 | The skinny silly guy above took a typewriter on June 14, 1980 and was very specific about a date (see original and translation on the right.) Twenty days later a girl thinks he was worth keeping. Two months later, like Rebekah giving water to the camel, she tells him her birthday: the same that is repeated over and over on his goal. Love made its way inside of two young and adventurous hearts and a prayer was answered. | "I would like to get married to a very cool girl on February 28, 1981..." "...this would be convenient: I either rent another apartment for my mom and I; or a smaller apartment just for her and borrow money to buy my own house, where my future wife and I will build our own kingdom...." "Another reason to be February 28 is because I will complete 5 years from my baptism. I was baptized February 29, 1976 and there would not be a better day to start a new life then the day I was born again. Another reason is that the 28th is a Saturday and all would be able to go to the wedding..." "If I could... no, I cannot use this expression, this is not what I learned in my mission. -Mr. Eduardo! We challenge you to be ready for your wedding February 28 of 1981. Are you going to make preparations? SAO PAULO 14 JUN 1980

From Eduardo's scrap book from the early 80's | May 1980 - Ticket to a dance that we went as "The Association of Alpha and Omega": Eduardo (me), Paulo, Guerra, and Soares. | The tale of the ribbons "... Once upon a time at a dance in Vila Maria, on July 3, 1980, there was a competition that awarded a guy one ribbon per girl he would dance with. I danced with all of these and I won the competition. In second place was only Paulinho with 23 ribbons." | THE BONBON WRAPPER HAS AN EXPLANATION: Prize of the Dance Sao Paulo - July 3, 1980 | During the dance we joked with Gislaine, telling her she shouldn't be there because she was 12 years old (but she was 17.) She did not care and actually helped me dance with more girls. Another dance would follow and I would try to be nicer to her since Paulinho told me on the bus the following week that she liked me. Why are we boys so insensitive?

The Green and Gold Dance "Dance at Vila Maria on July 12, 1980 where I won the prize for finding the girl with the special ribbon (that shiny one.) The girl was Gislaine. On the other dance we joked about her age. When I arrived to this one I immediately thought I would end up with her. Not too long after I figured I was right. | Here is the prize! | I arrived at the other dance with 3 girls and very upset: the former girlfriend, one that I was also interested in, and one who wanted me to go back to the previous girlfriend. Then I assumed the beautiful girl dressed in red, with a shorter hair, make up and all, was Gislaine, standing at the door of the chapel. I walked ahead of the three and immediately asked her if she would stay with me the whole dance. She liked the idea and confessed she was the girl with the golden ribbon (wink). The rest is history...

The Lord & the Rings | The wedding ring in Brazil does not need a diamond but when it was time to propose all I had was one little ring from my grandmother. Now as we read in the scriptures and I believe it well "the Lord would provide" and He did: Walking back from work about three months after we met (the time I planed to propose), I saw by the curb, on the street, a thick golden band that looked like a toy ring. I showed it to my mom and asked her to check it out and see if it was gold or whatever. She took the ring to a trusted family jeweler who had made my uncles wedding rings. It turned out it was a 24K gold band. The jeweler merged them on October 25, 1980 into two new and shining ones. The rings sparkled beautifully under the chandelier that hung above the altar of the Sao Paulo Temple 6 months later with inscriptions handwritten inside: On her ring: Eduardo 16-4-81 On my ring: Gislaine 16-4-81

Will you marry me? (my way) | (10-25-80: Outside the door at her house in Brazil. Now remember that she was going to turn 18 in four months) "Would you marry at age 18?" "Yes" "Would you marry ME at age 18?" - "no" would not mean she would not marry me, but she would not marry me at age 18... (being safe here but hit the jackpot anyway!) "Yes" "Would your father let you?" "Well, you should ask him... " (smile) "Uhum..." (With her dad, Osvaldo, in the kitchen right away) "Would you let me marry your daughter when she turns eighteen?" "Did she say she would marry you?" "Yes" "Then be good to her." | There was no asking the mother-in-law, but my mom knew that I was getting engaged and we went to her house with friends and flowers pretending to visit her sister Lucelia who was recovering from surgery. Lucelia played a song for us at their piano, I stood up and said: "I am here to announce that we'll get married." "And you let them?" (Loreta, the mother-in-law asked Osvaldo.) "Sure, he's a nice guy!" (Ka-ching!!!!... done!) :)

Bridal Shower with the Groom | We dressed funny and went out asking for money in the streets, remember? They gave us more than gifts... they gave us memories that never faded...

 Then the big day arrived!

Through the years You've never let me down You turned my life around The sweetest days I've found I've found with you Through the years I've never been afraid I've loved the life we've made And I'm so glad I've stayed Right here with you Through the years - KENNY ROGERS
