S: Renee Deverall's ART ISP 2012

BC: I feel like through grade 10 I learned a lot about who I am as an artist and this course helped me develop it. I am happy with the standard of work I produced and feel like I became evidently better within my art through the course of the year. - Renee Deverall

Unit 1: Animal & Print tiles

The first section of this project involved a lot of research. One of the main elements was to be able to cite our images and other artists work properly. The goal of the project was to create 4 tiles that had different color schemes but | keep an image of an animal of choice and a background pattern consistent throughout all tiles. The purpose of the project was to learn about different color schemes, and also to work on our painting skills. | I definitely struggled in this section because painting is weak media, but I developed and ended up having on tile that I was very proud of. I learned a lot about color schemes & applying them.

Research of artist who have worked with dogs. | In this section, I worked with dog artists and started to brain storm an animal I wanted to use.

Research of artists who have worked with patterns | In this section I brainstormed to see what patterns would fit with my animal.

My first tile didn't go as planned. I couldn't get the detail and accuracy in my background, however I was not too upset with my work on the dog. After this I decided to change my background because I knew that my painting skills weren't up to this standard.

 Getting complementary colours

This was my complimentary colours piece and the reflection I wrote for it. You can see the changes I made to the background pattern. It made my piece a lot stronger. | Renee Deverall September 2011 Acrylic

Analogous colours | In order to get the analogous colours I used a colour wheel and got a series of shades to choose from.

This was my favorite piece because I felt like it showcased my painting ability the most through the detail I incorporated. I was very proud of this piece. | Renee Deverall September 2011 Acrylic

Monochromatic | Renee Deverall September 2011 Acrylic

The monochromatic piece was my second favorite. I liked using red which was different to the previous tiles. This was the last piece of the project. I think the project taught me my strengths and weaknesses of painting and skills which helped me get more comfortable with my skills.

 Perspective & water colour unit

Perspective | These images are perspective drawings that I followed instructions from a packet. It was very helpful to learn skills of perspective because we were given a task that we would need the skill to complete. The task was to create a water colour painting of an image we took that involved perspective.

 Final piece reflection

The Renaissance unit | This unit was definitely a favorite for me because it really allowed me to explore who I am as an artist and find my own strengths.

 ssance unit

The initial research began by looking into the period of the renaissance and discovering the hidden artist talent that emerged. A big factor in the renaissance was the Fibonacci sequence and the golden ratio so we spent some time exploring that as well. Then we begun to brainstorm what we wanted to do.

Once I had an idea of what I wanted to do, after researching the time period and how my concept of dance and broken glass would work into a piece, I began to figure things out.

I spent a lot of time getting making the model zoetrope so I knew the process when it came around to making the real thing. I also spent a lot of time choosing how I wanted the glass to be portrayed in my images and what mediums I would use to get the image I wanted.

There was a few encounters that I had to get through on this project, but I felt like the end result was all worth it and I really grew as an artist through this unit. I discovered who I am and what strengths I have in art and plan to use it for HL IB art. | Renee Deverall March-April 2012 Mixed Media
